Historical Traveler Reviews Iberostar Tainos Varadero

      Very, very good beach resort

      from

2 first weeks of july 2003 :Iberostar Tainos is a great resort. The food (always available) is very good. The staff is mega-friendly, you can see they enjoy working at the hotel. The beach is very nice (white sand, very safe to swim, not crowdy, nice sunsets, good bar), the pool is great too (enough comfortable chairs, plenty of space,...). Always something to do or to see (including large pedalo's for 2 - 5 people and/or someone who takes you for a trip on the sea with a small but nice catamaran, all for free). At night there are shows, very entertaining, almost professional although it's the entertainment team who's performing (very good singers & dancers!). But best thing are the cocktails: you can get better mojito's here than in La Bodiguita del Medio, the pina colada's are excellent and so are many other drinks made with good quality ingredients. Also the alcohol free cocktails are delicious. The best bars are the one in the lobby and the one in the theatre (during the shows at night). No disco at this resort, so it's not suited for youngsters and singles... We have two kids (8 & 10 years old) and they enjoyed them as good as we did.A compliment to the manager of the Iberostar Tainos, almost invisible but on the other hand very present in the enthousiasm of the staff.

Great Value! Beats Beaches Hands down

      from

We recently returned from Varadero after a one week vacation at the Iberostar Tainos from July 20 - 27. A great time was had by all eight of us. We chose this resort based on the postings of this website and were certainly thrilled with the outcome. My wife and I had stayed at Beaches Varadero at Christmas time and were disappointed to say the least. You get way more bang for your buck at Tainos. Both resorts are located next to each other so we knew the stretch of beach was awesome.

That is where the similiarities ended. For one Tainos has an awesome beach bar and Beaches did not have one open. The staff at Tainos are friendly, generous and work hard to make you feel welcome. Beaches can not boast the same quality service. It seems you be treated better depending on how you tipped. Beaches boasted a larger quantity and selection of food, but Tainos had fresher and better quality. The poolside grill at lunch was fantastic. Cuban food is average at best and they use a lot of oil but you can always find something good to eat. The only prop I give Beaches over Tainos was the nightly entertainment and the outdoor venue. Personally, we don't think that it merits the extra four to five hundred dollars to stay there. We would definitely stay at the Tainos again. Great time. You will not be disappointed. White sand beaches and turquios water

      from

On the 28th of april, 2003 9 members of my family headed to varadero for my brothers wedding wich took place on the beach at the iberostar tainos. The moment we arrived at the resort the service was excellent. The people at the front desk were very friendly and the baggage carriers quickly delivered the bags to our rooms. The entertaiiinment staff was very friendly and they always greeted us with a smile. The rum was always flowing and the food was always falling into our hollow legs. Durring the day there were always different activities for us to particapate in and the selection of food was awesome. The beach at the tainos was the cleanest beach along the 20 km strip and the water was warm, but very salty. The rooms were always cleaned and the maids were very creative in folding the towels into shapes of animals. The resort was very well organized and it's a place I would love to go back to in the future. 10 out ten. DAVID

I would return _ no doubt. It's great

      from

We spent 2 weeks here and loved it. The food was top notch. It was different each night in the main dining area. We had lobster twice and it was great. The food was always hot too.Buns soft and a great variety of breads as well as buns. The desserts were fantastic and a great variety to choose from. There were 2 al-a-cartes and both great but the Cuban as opposed to the Brazilian was better. You could go as often as you wanted and we went 4 times, Had the steak twice , Grouper once and Pork Once GREAT. The Brazilian.( we were there twice) was one menu with 6 differtent meats served to you on long skrewers of which you took what you wanted and they went on to the next table. The hotel it self was nice, As we stayed a few weeks later in the Solymar because we won a trip, we actually never found as far as the rooms any different. The maids were better , friendlier and made a point to be friendly as the waiters in all the eating places. Bueatiful people. The beach was great. Every night there was a major clean up on the beach and all the trash was picked up and lounges stacked. There were also Ceramic trash containers all along the beach for the trash. I have nothing but great things to say about this resort. In one review I read some person commented on they could never get a napkin, well, our experienced was Breakfast - a small napkin, Lunch - a normal size napkin and Dinner a large cloth napkin. Oh yes -- the entertainment was great --some was audience participation but the most was professional dancing and plays. There is no doubt that this is a great resort and it is the people that work there so make it that way. they very much make a point to make you welcome. I would not hesitate to return. I would class this as a 5***** star as opposed to the Barcelo Solymar that we spend a week at also in March, 2003. Read that review. Wayne & Tillie

      I miss ir so much

      from

I've traveled to Iberostar Tainos for the period of 22 feburary from 9 March. We spend 2 magical week, ok everything wasn't ok, but i really had a great time and I wish to go back because the staff are really friendly. It was amazing, like nothing I've seen before. I made some great friends back there, especialy with the entertainers staff. The only bad critic would be the service in the hotel, but beside that, I can only give them a big 9/10. And next year I'll try to go back to see them again.

      Awesome!!!

I visited Tainos in April 2000...when it was newly opened just 4 months previous. It was lovely, great staff, etc etc...good times were had by all!

      Tainos is Awesome

      from

I have travelled alot over the past 15 years and can honestly say that the Tainos Resort is Top Notch. I stayed there in 2000 with my mom and then again in 2001 with my sister and her family. We all loved it. My niece and nephew who were 18 and 15 at the time still rave about it today.. We all want to return. Because my mom and I went two years in a row, The staff treated us like royalty. We received bottles of rum three nights in a row, our refrigerator was stocked full of bottled water daily and they left us flowers..It was amazing. The food was great...the show was fun...staff tried hard to get everybody involved regardless of age, race, sex....we couldn't have asked for a better vacation. I'm certain we will return again one day. Oh and lets not forget, it's probably one of the best beaches i've ever been on...pure white sand and crystal clear ocean...honestly what more can a person ask for...pure heaven!!!

      Very good!

      from

Excellent, non-crowded beach area and pool. The hotel is next to Beaches Varadero and the Tainos beach is much nicer! Awesome staff. Food is good, but blander than Mexico all-inclusives. No food at night (although can find some from night staff). Would definitely go back!

      Loved Tainos

      from

Visted Tainos for 1 week in April 2002. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed it - as did almost everyone we spoke to. The housekeeping staff, bar staff and entertainment group were incredibly friendly. The hotel was small but there was plenty of amenities for everyone, regardless of the type of holiday they wanted.

I can't understand all the negative comments about the food in Cuba. Despite the fact that they have limited trade opportunities and are trying to cater to palates different from their own, they do a good job of providing a variety of food. It got a little monotonous near the end of the week but there are the other two restaurants on-site for a change.

The beach was incredible, the country and it's people - amazing. We're already booked to return this spring. Will try a different hotel this time - just for some variety but I highly recommend the Tainos.

      Iberostar Hotel, Varadero

      from

Our first all-inclusive experience, and now we don't want to do anything else! The hotel is a great introduction to Cuba - clean, friendly, modern and with lots of facilities. Gorgeous beach, great pools, great staff and good food. Excellent standards of hygiene. The perfect relaxing Caribbean experience...

      Thanks for the memories

We arrived in Varadero, about an hour down the coast from Matanzas on Thursday afternoon. We were met by the Casa señorita and could walk to the casa. Varadero is a hugely popular tourist spot. We learned that in the 90s, after Russia pulled financial support from Cuba they began to allow tourism-but wanted to keep in certain areas-like Varadero and locals were banned from interacting with tourists. This has obviously relaxed, but there is a noticeable ...

... it; they must have ordered 50-60 serves of ice cream (no joke) land were shovelling it into large plastic containers they brought themselves! We still don't know what that was all about-we assume there is some restriction on where you can buy it. We never quite found the beach in Matanzas, but after walking for an hour that evening to go for dinner and ending up going to bed hungry at 9, we decided onwards we ...

... There’s a ‘hop-on-hop-off’ tourist bus here, you know, one of those open top things, with a bored girl on a microphone pointing out the tourist attractions as they pass. We jumped on given we had 4 nights here and outside the beach, it’s the ‘other’ thing to do. Our plan was simply to ride the circuit and be done with it. We didn’t feel that whole ‘hop-on-hop-off’ concept really applied in any real means ...

... with light blue water and white sands with palm trees and groomed beaches...what a place for a little r&r. Five pools all with bars and four poster lounge beds...this will do very nicely thank you!

Asthetically speaking, the approach to the Veradero peninsula compared to the rest of Cuba was extraordinary. The infrastructure in Cuba is shoddy and delapidated yet this approach was polished and groomed. All for the benefit of the touurist. The ...

... outside was minimum 30 degrees of Celsius and inside a bit less. But the water was freezing to be honest.
After a cool swim, we had to come back to hotel. The jeep driver was inviting us to his house and meet his family, but we refused ti him, because we felt a little bit tired and wanted to rest after this tour. So he took us to hotel safely and left us, we got to our room and prepared for tomorrow trip to Havana.
