THE FISH IN THE SEA (a fable)

A travel blog entry by modernoddyseus

... the powerful sea that created these fish."
-----She looks again at the fish she's holding. She notices an intelligent look in his eyes. And he's smiling.
-----He knows, the scientist thinks. He knows that he's actually all the fish in the sea. And he acts accordingly, to make the sea a better place for all.
-----He knows, thinks the scientist, he has the power of the sea that created him inside of him. He knows he ...

AN UPDATE OF CHARACTERS

... man. He ran the local internet cafe. He wore fashionable black and gelled his hair. He had a happy, charismatic smile.
"Je n'aime pas cette vie," he told me. (I don't love this life.)
He loved Islam. He was certain the Koran was God's word, transmitted to humanity through Mohammed. He loved Islam, because it placed men above women. He claimed that scientists had recently proven that men ...

A VISIT TO THE MOSQUE

A travel blog entry by modernoddyseus

... Muslims insist their women should cover themselves? I recalled nothing from my reading of the Koran that commanded this, and I'd found evidence suggesting only three "Hadiths" discussed the subject. This custom made married women invisible, insignificant, helpless; and it robbed young men of the jobs of having girlfriends and female friends.
The only people who seemed empowered by this custom ...

When we accepted the exchange of prayer for God's love, we began accepting other things we shouldn't:
-----property taxes and rent, in exchange for a piece of the world to stand on; visa fees, for the right to move in peace; museum fees, for the right to learn about our world; jobs we hated, or unethical jobs in border-control/politics/the-military/ma rketing/journalism/espionage, for money; sacrifice ...

I CAME FOR A DONKEY, I STAYED FOR THE PEOPLE

A travel blog entry by modernoddyseus

... Bheema! Bheema!"
- - (Donkey! Donkey! Donkey!)
- - And the newest townsperson, me -
- - Maybe the craziest.
- - I wanted to buy a donkey. A female (bheema) was cheaper than a "bheem".
- - But, after waiting a week for the neighboring town's livestock market, I didn't go because it was too early. I hated waking up before sunset.
- - Quirky.
- - I liked the people of Sminja. Almost as much as I liked donkeys.

Historical Traveler Reviews Iberostar Solaria Hammamet

    Hotel très agréable

    from

    from

    from

    from

    from

    from

Buceo: no había mucha visibilidad.

    from

Abendessen: Große Auswahl an qualitativ guten Speisen.

    A pleasant Experience!

    from

To be frank, I wasn't expecting much of either the hotel or the area, after having spoken to a few friends and colleagues who had more or less bad experiences themselves in the region.

    Amazing value for money

    from

A large, clean, well equiped and maintained hotel. A good 4* +

Nice, but maybe not quite 5*

    from

Yasmine is a fairly new but growing resort about five miles South of Hammamet. It has been created exclusively for the tourist market and seems to house four and five star hotels. There is a marina and a small selection of restaurants and cafes about five minutes walk from the hotel. If you fancy going into Hammamet there is a tourist "train" and there are always taxis available. Tunis is about one hour away by road, or you can get the train from Bir Bou Regba just outside Hammamet right into Tunis for six Dinards. It also takes about one hour.
