In the afternoon we took a trip out to the old Cidade Velha. We saw the enormous fort overlooking this village, and finished the day perfectly by wandering round ancient cobbled streets with names like Rue de Banana followed by a drink overlooking the sea.

... No fancy air conditioned coaches here, but small mini buses, our guide, Walter, had studied in Boston USA and was now back in his homeland attending university to become an English teacher. ... on the Verandah deck with cocktails and a good book and more music to say farewell to Cape Verde. An interesting little island well worth a short visit to understand how little some people have to survive on. It sort of makes you feel guilty for tucking into your five course meal but at least we added a little tourism money to their economy.
