Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Riu Palace Macao Punta Cana

Had the best time of my life at the Palace

We stayed at the Riu Palace for 7 days. By far, this is the best vacation i have ever taken. I have been on many vacations, including mexico, hawaii, florida, bahamas, and a caribean cruise but this is definitely one that i will never forget and hope to return to the Riu Palace. The hotel was very beautiful and clean, the staff was excellent, very friendly. The food was great with alot of variety. Special Thanks to the animation group for their entertaining, it completely added the special touch to the week. We loved the group so much, we wanted to stay an extra week. Unfortunately we couldn't but will sure try to make it back next year. Keep up the good job victor, orlando, and Randy.

      Great Palace Macao

We spent our holidays at Palace Macao from Jan. 27 thru Feb 10 and had a great time, nice food, friendly staff and alsways somebody available to help. Great beach to spend the day and make nice walks. The only thing we found disburbing was the bad behaviour of some US citizens, who treated the staff like theis slaves, it's a shame.

      Loved It!

We had the best time of our lives. Everyone was VERY Friendly , the room spotless, the grounds magnificent. I would like to thank our apple travel agent and the one bartender i can remember by name not to say they others where bad but Danny stood out to be the best. Cant wait to have a nother Punta Cana vacation

The best vacation I've ever taken! With a group of 15 people, there was never a lack of things to do. Originally booked in Taino, however they over-booked and bumped all of us to the Palace! Fabulous!!! Besides spending most of the day in the swim-up bar, there were some great excursions I would definitely do again. The one I absolutely loved was the catamaran ride to Saona Island. Wish it would have lasted all day! Snorkeling was great too! As for the food- If you couldn't find something in the beautiful buffets you can always book an intimate dinner elsewhere. Great food! And don't worry about the ice in your drinks. It's safe. Just stick to the bottled water in your room and you'll be fine! We're planning to return in November. If not sooner! Thanks to Tripadvisor for giving us a heads-up on this fabulous resort!

      What a Fabulous time

We spent a week at the Riu Macao Palace Jan 13-21 2003. There was not a thing to complain about. The food was fantastic alot of variety. The rooms were terrific and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. We took many excursions which also added to the fun. Try the snorkelling from the watersports centre, they know where to take you and it is only $15 US. The Monster truck safari is also worth the money. Be sure to go to a dollar store and buy some inexpensive things to take to the locals if you plan on this excursion, they can really use it. Toiletries, would be a big help. The shows are a little corny but if you are in a positive mode(which you should be on vacation) then you'll like them. The grounds are well maintained and you have access to all the other Riu properties. Any negative reviews must be from people who will never be happy with anything. I am very hard to please and I don't have a bad thing to say about the Macao Palace. Enjoy! Thanks to Teressa from Superdeals in Hamilton for all her help and for her recommendation.

      Hated to leave

never had a better vacation, or thought that i could have one this good. Nicest resort I've seen, definately 1st class...a 5 star plus! The food was amazing, and the entire building and grounds kept spotless, 7/24. I would definately go back again. Also got a great deal and good advice from our travel agent "" I'll certainly take her advice again. It's no wonder that she's rated the # 1 agent in that chain.

      Stayed there in March 2002

I just read the review about the person that stayed 1 week at the Riu and hated it. We stayed there for a week last March and it was everything we hoped for. The weather was beautiful, no bugs, water was warm, beach was great. We asked for a pool view room and they let us move. The workers were very friendly. It was my birthday, and the maids made up a little birthday card and put balloons in my room, and at dinner they brought me a birthday cake. The food was excellent, and what's nice is that you can go over to the other connecting Rius to eat and drink, but they can't come to the Palace. This was the most relaxing vacation we have ever taken and we hated to leave. They were in the process of remodeling the rooms, and I will admit that I thought the rooms would be a little fancier, but the rooms were very large and clean, with nice balconies. They showed us the updated rooms, since they had one done, and they were beautiful. We would not hesitate to go again. I would hardly give this hotel 1 star. It's definitely a 4-5 star. We met a guy who was mad because he didn't meet any women, and I would agree that it was more couples/family oriented, so if you're single, maybe it's not the place you want to go. But the hotel is beautiful and the grounds as well. So please don't write this off your list. We had a great time!

      Loved the Macao

We had a great time. The food was great, staff was friendly and the resort setting was beautiful, we had a great time. The other Riu resorts were nice to walk around as well. We did lots of walking during the week. Would return for sure.

      Perfect Palace Vacation

This place is FANTASTIC. I had the best time. The hotel was beautiful, as were the other RIU properties in the compound. The people were very friendly. Our room, which was NOT a suite, was so beautiful. It was spacious, luxurious and clean. The rooms had a minibar and a liquor cabinet. The beach was perfect. The sand was soft and the water was warm. The food and drinks were very good and plentiful. The shows were very entertaining and the casino was okay (it was small). The shopping in the hotl is decent, but a little pricey. You get better prices in town, or on the beach. The tours are Terrific. If you go, you must take the "Monster Truck Tour". I love this place and can't wait to go back.

One week at the Riu Palace Macao in Punta Cana

We stayed for seven days at the Riu Palace Macao. It was the biggest nightmare of my life. Upon check-in, we were taken to our room. The room was like an oven. The baggage clerk said he turned on the a/c and the room would cool down shortly. This was at 3:00 p.m. At 5:00 p.m., the room was even hotter. Each time we called, we were told that the a/c would be fixed in 10 minutes. Finally at 8:00 p.m. we demanded another room. At 9:00 we were finally in a room with a/c. We did not get dinner that night because by the time we got into our room, dinner was over. We found out during the remainder of the trip, that the a/c was just not up to snuff. It rarely worked. Also, be aware, that when the maid cleans your room each morning, she is instructed to turn off the master switch, so that the a/c does not run at all during the day.

The snorkeling was even worse. Keep in mind, you are swimming in the Atlantic Ocean. Water is dirty and there is really nothing to see besides seaweed. Be sure to bring a lot to read. There is absolutely nothing and I mean nothing there in English. No books and no magazines. Also, very little English is spoken.

This resort is not a 5 star resort either. More like a 1 or 2 stars. It's clean and the people are friendly, but the food is about the same that you would get at any Atlantic City and/or Vegas buffet. The towels in the bathroom and by the pool are old and worn. Bring candles also to burn in your rooms, as the rooms are very musty.

We did not see any shows. The resort does not post any kind of shows or attractions. Very little information is given out. It's mostly by way of word or mouth or just walk around and find out for yourself. The weather is extremely hot. Be prepared.

If I had to do this again, I would not have taken this trip. A 5-day cruise to the Bahamas would cost about the same and is a much nicer trip. I would not recommend this resort. And, as I've stated above, this "all-inclusive" resort was the biggest nightmare vacation I've ever had. If you are staying here, I would re-think the entire trip.

... steak well done because I was unsure if they would make it too raw and to my surprise it was by far the best steak I have ever had. There was no pink at all yet it was moist and tender like a rare steak. If I had one complaint it would be the use of whole anchovies on their Caesar salad. And really it's unfair to call it a complaint. I was more taken off guard when I discover the anchovies. Thankfully I maintained composure and did not ...

The thing that I dislike about it the most is that it is very apparent that they are poor and you can almost smell the desperation on them. It seems that they are trying to guilt you into making a purchase. It is definitely something that I don't do well ...

Today was spent on the resort, not the beach, just in and around the resort grounds. We took the time to walk the grounds some more and see the wildlife up a little closer. There are quite a variety of birds living on the grounds. The ones we recognize are peacocks, pigeons, geese, flamingos and cranes. There are several species that we do not recognize as well. In the ponds there are turtles, a variety of fish and very large toads or ...

On another day, we took a boat to Saona Island as part of a tour where we are bbq, fruit and collected seashells that we brought home with us. We went through a cave complex (called Los Tres Ojos) with crystal clear blue ponds and fossils all around. On our way home, we stopped at a tobacco farm, and for Dave this might have been the highlight of the trip. He'd grown his ...

Laying by the pool. Its 9 am! So you can see where this day is going! Relaxing! My thought of the day is?.. The toilet paper here is better than the toilet paper at home! Really Patrick! There's some things you just shouldn't economize on. Oh my gosh Patrick has spent the last 2 days absorbing his book, don't know how I am going to keep him busy after that so he doesn't spend all ...
