    ... the local shops - well, souvenir shops that are everywhere and contain pretty much the same merchandise. On our way back to the ship Bruce took off his sandals at a small beach and “paddled” in the water. He has been wanting to have a swim in the Aegean Sea since we left Hobart but it hasn’t happened yet (mainly because we haven’t been near any beaches).     Nestled within the walls was the impressive Palace of the Grand Master, built for the leader of the Knights of the Order of St. John.

    The palace was sacked when the Ottoman Turks finally defeated the army of the Knights.
