The Intro

So, we made it to Playa del Carmen after a brutally long plane journey, which was made infinitely better by the awesome movie selection, including the Godfather parts I & II, which took care of six hours!

I'm writing this on our last evening in Playa del Carmen. The reason we're not using our last night wisely and …

... boat. We came to a spot in the middle of the ocean where we couldn't see land and that's where atleast 30 other boats. It was rough seas and we had 3 people vomiting overboard from seasickness! The whale sharks had disappeared so they took us an hour away to another spot where there were over 10 whale sharks coming up from the ocean to feed on krill. We jumped into the water in twos and ...

... with him and he told the girls we'd see them a bit later. I kept asking Stuie what are we doing, to which he wouldn't tell me. Selfishly I wanted to stay on the water but was happy to follow Stuie and support him in what ever he was doing. Little did i know!!! He walked me to the foyer of the hotel where a lovely lady dressed in white was waiting. I couldn't believe it! I smiled from head to toe, Stuie had organised a surprise hour long massage for me. ...

... br> After we were done, I was planning to meet Juan, Elisa, Dona Raquel and the kids at a beach. As it would take them a little while to get ready, I took the opportunity to have a nice seafood lunch at the beachside restaurant attached to the shop. It is hard to beat fresh seafood, cold beer and a great table over looking the turquoise waters of the Caribbean.. And I was not about to miss that ...

... containing small bottles of tequila and said we can't send them, apparently anything with glass is not allowed, which we had a few objects, not only the gifts I mentioned but a beer bottle with a photo of Bobbie and I on the label from the 4 wheeler jungle tour. He then begun to speak very fast in Spanish and we had no idea what he was saying, luckily a man next to us translated for us and said we need to get a cardboard box and tape to package all the things. ...

Really good all-inclusive resort in Playa del Carmen

We're not usually all-inclusive resort people but it was our honeymoon so we wanted to stay somewhere nice and it seems all-inclusive is actually cheaper than not in many cases. We chose the Gran Porto Real because it was the right price and in a great location for our future travels to Cuba and the rest of Central America and South America. All in all, the resort was what we wanted. We could have easily drank ourselves into total renal failure if we wanted and the food was abundant and of a decent standard. There's so many staff and they are all really helpful, the room was really good, the pools are the perfect places to while away a honeymoon and overall we had no complaints. We paid an extra $100 or so to upgrade our 'ocean view' room to a room that actually had a proper ocean view, rather than a view of the road and a bit of ocean out of the corner of your eye - it as well worth it, as the view of the pool and the Caribbean made our stay there that much better.
