The Intro

So, we made it to Playa del Carmen after a brutally long plane journey, which was made infinitely better by the awesome movie selection, including the Godfather parts I & II, which took care of six hours!

... surprised with a nice, ample, well decorated condo. Nice living, dinning table for 8 to 10, modern kitchen stucked with everything we need for breakfast and drinks (they asked me for our list in advance to do the groceries for us), and 3 bedrooms ready to receive 7 people.

We unpacked , chat for a while and head out for dinner, we explore a couple of blocks at la quinta but the girls were too hungry so we settled for the Ula Gula one block from the condo.

... prouder of myself & of Stuie my consistent rock of encouragement & support. After the day was over and all the snorkelling was done, Carlos brought out some fresh fruit and rum. We all had a shot as we made our way back to shore, what a way to end the day!! The sun was setting just as we climbed from the boat so we all decided to head to the split, the northern point of the island, a truly magical spot to watch the sun set while having a drink and after the day we'd ...

... local restaurants. As we ate, I filled out all the paperwork. Lots of liability forms - I basically signed my life away to PADI. A quick overview of the house rules, and Mike showed me around. The house has four bedrooms over two levels, a communal kitchen, and one shower with two toilets which are shared between between the ten of us. As the interns started to arrive back from the dive, I quickly learned that this means absolutely no privacy. ...

... sunken ship called Mama Viña, and then to a coral reef shaped like a giant hand. Mama Viña was impressive, and full of life. The strong current carried us right around the boat, barely having to kick, and we entered the main deck to find hundreds of fish swimming about. The videos are the only thing that can do this boat any justice. It was so calm and peaceful, and neat to see how coral life had taken over the entire boat. At the second dive site, the coral ...

Really good all-inclusive resort in Playa del Carmen

We're not usually all-inclusive resort people but it was our honeymoon so we wanted to stay somewhere nice and it seems all-inclusive is actually cheaper than not in many cases. We chose the Gran Porto Real because it was the right price and in a great location for our future travels to Cuba and the rest of Central America and South America. All in all, the resort was what we wanted. We could have easily drank ourselves into total renal failure if we wanted and the food was abundant and of a decent standard. There's so many staff and they are all really helpful, the room was really good, the pools are the perfect places to while away a honeymoon and overall we had no complaints. We paid an extra $100 or so to upgrade our 'ocean view' room to a room that actually had a proper ocean view, rather than a view of the road and a bit of ocean out of the corner of your eye - it as well worth it, as the view of the pool and the Caribbean made our stay there that much better.
