We're not usually all-inclusive resort people but it was our honeymoon so we wanted to stay somewhere nice and it seems all-inclusive is actually cheaper than not in many cases. We chose the Gran Porto Real because it was the right price and in a great location for our future travels to Cuba and the rest of Central America and South America. All in all, the resort was what we wanted. We could have easily drank ourselves into total renal failure if we wanted and the food was abundant and of a decent standard. There's so many staff and they are all really helpful, the room was really good, the pools are the perfect places to while away a honeymoon and overall we had no complaints. We paid an extra $100 or so to upgrade our 'ocean view' room to a room that actually had a proper ocean view, rather than a view of the road and a bit of ocean out of the corner of your eye - it as well worth it, as the view of the pool and the Caribbean made our stay there that much better.

So, we made it to Playa del Carmen after a brutally long plane journey, which was made infinitely better by the awesome movie selection, including the Godfather parts I & II, which took care of six hours!
I'm writing this on our last evening in Playa del Carmen. The reason we're not using our last night wisely and …

Suffice to say we had fun dancing on the sand and joining the rest of the crowd in a 4hr dose of voyeurism to some very cool tunes. Afterwards we ate a late dinner at another Mexican restaurant on 5th Avenue where we washed down our vodka’s with some burritos and a yard-glass of margarita each – we also procured a small bottle ...

My sister and I decided to hit the dance floor. Thank god for that superhero drink (which, by the way was pretty good) because after a few songs, we were the only ones on the dance floor. Not that we cared, but it was a bit weird. Eventually, we were joined by a few other people who were also from Canada - a very nice girl from Saskatchewan and cool guy from and a also a fun group from the UK.

Teina joined us this evening, after going out for dinner we headed to a backpacker bar called Rio which has a rooftop bar and free drinks for ladies from 10-11pm, we took full advantage. Being a group of girls in Playa also means free entry into nightclubs and free drinks all night, we didn't spend a cent and the bouncers literally grab your hand and pull you into their clubs! la tauidas and mandala were our ...
Farewells were harder and more tearful than I'd anticipated but I set off from LHR with full bags, despite the depleted tissue stock and an open mind on my return date. Day 1 was possibly the day that would never end but I made it safely to my 'Caribbean Paradise' dwellings in Playa Del Carmen exhausted but just about in one piece. Playa del Carmen is a huge resort town but the beach is pleasant with lots of things to explore nearby. My reservations about the ...
