Cabo – Sunday
Doc got up first and had breakfast (the usual morning routine). Poppi and Doc then went to mass that was held in one of the clubs. The priest was from Pittsburgh and was also on vacation. After breakfast for Poppi, we went on our segway excursion in Cabo. Our impression of downtown Cabo was like most coastal Mexican tourist cities with a mixture of new construction and rundown ...
... their son Jackson, who we had met at Cabo Surf, for dinner. I am going marlin fishing with Chad tomorrow so we thought we'd better meet up and nut out the details. Dinner was great they are a really nice couple. Food was the standard Hard Rock fare which is no problem because the kids love the menu. After dinner we said our good byes & I grabbed a quick souvenir t-shirt and we grabbed a cab back to the Casa Dorada for beddie ...
... the condiment bar where you could load up your taco with pickled veggies, all kinds of salsas and onion rings and deep fried jalapenos.
Celina's parents came down with us on this trip and they are staying the remainder of the month. At Los Claros, we all ended up ordering way too many tacos and almost couldn't finish them, we knew better for next time.
This was a "working vacation" however, so after settling in, the next day we met with Monica ...

Wow! What an incredible experience. Five days at Faro Del Cabo just wasn't enough! My sons and I were so sad the day we had to leave. We have been home 1 day and are already planning our next stay there and telling all our family and friends! We have traveled a great deal but have never experienced such beauty, such delicious food, warm and caring service and the pampering was endless! We miss Erick, Ricardo, Issac, Martin, Delafina and others very much! I had several extra sets of eyes keeping an eye on my children for me. I felt safe and secure letting them spend the day at the childrens and junior center. This resort is a dream come true! Sheryl, Joey and Daniel DeShields
This was my first visit to Cabo. Having been to Cancun & Cozumel numerous times, I was expecting the same type of environment here, but Faro was pleasantly different.The resort itself is beautiful -- centered around a gorgeous pool area with swim-up bar, two separate pools, a hot tub, and another saltwater wading pool, and plenty of seating areas w/comfortable lounge chaises and a few hammocks. The pool area overlooks the beach, which is just a half flight of stairs below. The pictures on their website just don't do justice to the beautiful surroundings. The restaurants are fabulous, also (and I'm a pretty fussy eater). One restaurant has a huge patio overlooking the beach and pool area; another bar & grill area is right near the pools. The food was delicious, which in my experience is unusual for an all-inclusive resort.There is also a neat little bar in top of the 'lighthouse' at the entrance to the resort. It's got a stunning 360 degree view of the area, including a good view of the sunset over the mountains. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, our room was great, too. Very clean, good size, nice amenities, great view. The bed was a little firm, and the water in the toilet was perpetually yellow. But we weren't drinking it, so that didn't concern us too much.The staff was quite friendly and helpful, regularly checking with us on anything we needed. The resort is still under construction, so a few of the restaurants advertised weren't yet open, nor was the spa. Apparently all construction is expected to be completed in April. There weren't many other guests when we were there, which was nice in some ways because it was much more peaceful and relaxing. But it's a smaller resort anyway in terms of capacity, so it likely won't ever get to the crazy crowded environment of other resorts in Mexico. We're definitely looking forward to coming back!
Wonderful people, entertainment, fabulous food, good golf, great weather. We hope you enjoy your trip as much as we did. All the hotel needs is guests. Go now while it is easy to get in. Not the boisterous crowd you find in Cabo San Lucas. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed. Twice daily maid service. Did we mention the fabulous food---both lunch and dinner are the very best we have experienced in a vacation hotel--or any other kind of hotel.
Obviously, there are some conflicting reviews here. My husband got the trip through AA vacations for x-mas. I read the other reviews and was concerned. We returned last night. If you are looking for a very quiet, restful place to go, then this is your place. If you want noise, McDonalds, and a lot of white people, then go to Cabo san Lucas. The entire hotel is not open yet, but what was offered was plenty. It is beautiful. The grounds, the beach, the people were very nice, and we had a beautiful room. I reccomend it for people who just want peace more than, well, McDonalds.
What a wonderful hotel! The service was superb: highly capable, friendly, helpful, and always gracious. The pool area is vast, even for a luxury resort, with plenty of privacy for conversation or swimming in any of the several pools. The water is very clean, at a perfect temperature. The food was delicious and ample, with MANY choices and all the basics, both Mexican and international. An endless, uncrowded beach is about a one-minute walk from your room. The all-inclusive feature is a blessing: once you check in, you never have to worry about bills or prices, because you know that everything is prepaid. The whole complex is wonderfully relaxing. You really feel welcome! My wife and I have stayed in many excellent hotels in Europe, the US, Canada, and Mexico; now Faro del Cabo is one of our favorites!
I don't know what hotels the guys above visited-but it sure wasn't this one: Imagine, if you would, yellow water flowing from the spout in the three different rooms we were shown. Restaurants that weren't yet finished. Horrible food. Unsafe egress in the hallways. Elevators that don't work. Untrue statements about the amenities available -- right there on the hotel's website. The property simply wasn't completed: Save your money!
Most of the claims on the Faro Del Cabo Resort website are lies. The hotel did not open for paying customers until December 7, 2002, all prior visitors were comped or vastly discounted. We stayed at this resort from December 23-27 and will never return. The physical building will be beautiful WHEN it is complete, but that won't happen until at least June 2003. The only exercise facilities that presently exist are a small exercise room and 2 tennis courts. Only two restaurants and one sports bar are open. There was NO entertainment, not even on Christmas! The guests waited an hour with lighted luminarias on Christmas Eve for promised entertainers to arrive for a traditional Mexican Posada procession, but none showed! Less than 1/3 of the facility is open, there is no business center, the one computer with an internet connection has Spanish-only software, there is NO Spa, no room service menu, no mini refrigerators no room safes, no basketball court, no climbing wall, etc. The Sky Bar and many other portions of the facility are still under construction. Worst of all, the only person at the hotel empowered to DO anything for the guests is the General Manager, and one of the MoD's, Katharina, was blatantly rude to us when we asked when we could expect the promised Christmas "entertainment." Wait until 2004 and several rave reviews by Fodor's and Frommer's before you book at this resort!
Hotel was poorly staffed and not complete
Went to Faro del Cabo on an American Airlines vaction over Christmas. The hotel was only 25% occupied because it is not finished! Very poorly organized staff, very poor night life. Wait a few years for this one!
Just returned from a week at this resort and it was beyond compare. To begin, the resort was still being finished, but that did not affect our stay at all. The staff bent over backwards to make us feel comfortable and welcome. The ocean front room was not huge, but it was clean with an incredible view. A corner room (like the one in the pictures on their site) gives you a big balcony with great breezes day and night. Bottle water and soda was delivered to our room day one, and kept restocked without asking. There is no mini-bar or refrigerator, but we really didn't seem to need it. However, there is no room safe, so we kept valuables at the front desk hotel safe. We heard some people say they changed rooms because the ceiling leaked, but ours was perfect. A funny thing, the rooms have motion sensors, and if your aren't in room, the sensors will shut off the power to save energy. But that turns off the power to your clock radio, so every time your walk back in your room, your clock is flashing 12:00! Took us a few re-settings of the clock to figure that one out. Anyway, the dining was incredible, and we've been to some very exclusive resorts that didn't serve this level of cuisine. 3 different dinner menus each week, and every meal was great, unlike some all-inclusives where you only get a cheap buffet. Breakfast and lunch were just as good, and again, the staff went out of their way to serve our every need. Pools were great, although the main pool was very cold. The great service was completed by the fact that although the shuttle to the airport wasn't included in our package, when we checked out and mentioned it to the clerk, he had the bellboy drive us to the airport in the hotel SUV!
