Hurghada And Mt. Sinai, Egypt

... everyone I knew. It was bizarre, and a little alarming.

Finally, we arrived at “my” camel. As this young boy helped me up onto my camel, which had VERY tight pummels on its saddle (one jutted into my back – the other dug into my belly), I have to admit – I was a bit terrified. My balance was all wrong, and the camel was so far off the ground (and this, even before the camel stood up)! You can imagine my terror, therefore, when the ...

Ballooning Over Luxor (But Do Not Forget Karnack!)

... its base three times each for good luck (if you want to get pregnant, you must walk around it seven times! Don’t think anyone in our group did the seven times…).

After the Temple of Karnack, we drove the short distance to Luxor Temple, which also was beautiful and massive (yet seemed small in comparison to Karnack!). Largely built by the pharaohs Amenhotep III (1380-1352 BC) and Ramses II (1279-1213 BC), the Temple of ...

Last Day

Not much to blog today except that I managed to find the Singapore GP
on the TV. Unfortunately on a German station but at least I managed to
watch it at least.

Can't remember if I mentioned on the diving days I spotted an Osprey
nest on one of the marina entrance marker bouys. On the second day
both Ospreys were standing together ...

Has it really been 20 years?

Our 20th wedding anniversary today which started with some shopping
and then the hotel offered us a free meal tonight mainly because of
the problems at dinner last night but also because of our anniversary.

Rest of the day is quiet with a relax by the pool this afternoon
because it is has been really hot today and it helped us cool off.

Dinner tonight was excellent in the hotels al la carte restaurant
which was all the better because it was free!

Meryl's Birthday

Meryl's Birthday and we spent the day on the dive clubs boat going out
to Dolphin Point to do snorkelling. It was pretty good to see the fish
again like yesterday plus we got to see a few dolphins as well.

Got back to the hotel around 5pm and guess what? Another cake has
arrived! Woo hoo!

Going for dinner tonight on the side of the marina with a show as well.

Pretty fishes, well most of them

... and kept me alive so I am grateful to him.

We went to a show tonight after dinner which was put on by the
animation team. It was supposed to be dance routines to movie songs
but sadly dancing does not seem to be their main talent, bless, they
tried hard.

And the birthday cake has finally gone after lurking in the room for a
few days.

How to sleep on a bus in Egypt

... And the good thing is that because our hotel had an agreement with the nice resort hotel across the street, we could use the amenities there.
Our breakfast was included today and we went across the street for it plus we could also use the pools (yes there were several) plus the hotel had its own patch of beach along the sea.
We had the morning to ourselves with most of us taking the time to just chill out.
We left Hurghada at 2pm with a long drive ahead of us. We were ...

Stories from under the sun: A day complete

We arose the following morning at 5am (told you about not getting lie-ins), this time of our (read: Ed's) own accord to watch the sunrise over the beach immediately outside our hotel room. I didn’t wake up particularly easily on the morning in question and was nothing short of grumpy, though Ed spent most of the time behind his camera (perhaps hiding from my mood…). We meandered down the beach slowly as the twilight sky turned to orange, only disturbed by ...

Bringing you up to date

... room and yell "Mohamed" and 90% of the men will turn around. Even the Egyptians admit and laught about it. Egyptians love Americans. Therefore, do not be afraid to visit this wonderful and historic country. There is nothing to fear. They take great pride in their effort to show their concerns for our safety. We never once were afraid for our safety. We leave you with a few of our favorites from Egypt. Shukran.

How did they manage the pyramids??

Hmm well I've been here a week (an d it seems like forever) and i can definatley say that i wouldn't put Hurgarda up there on the list of top ten holiday spots. Its really busy and filled up with Russians. Haven't met another English person yet but maybe thats not such a great tragedy. Living and working in Egypt is a whole new experience on every level. Everything here works on Egyptian time which appears to be a time zone of its own, with equally dodgy ...
