No hurry to go ashore, must have been around 11am. Tendered in the lifeboats today. Caught the tourist bus, again excellent value for 1.5hrs, €10ea. The commentary was not very informative, brief, and hard to hear, but the sights, the BEACHES, were gorgeous. The cemetery was something else entirely, 45,000 graves - we thought it smelt too! Tuesday 4th August
We woke up in the port of City of Ajaccio, on the West side of Corsica. Birthday boy Kevin was greeted and serenaded to a happy birthday by everyone!!!! No sleeping in......time for a walk down along the boardwalk.!!!!
After breakfast we caught the double decker bus for a 1 1/2 hour tour of the city. Josie took some photos of us as she said she would be the photographer ...
... and the shutters on the windows added to the colonial feel of the place.
Corsica is a French island but the overriding influence seemed to be Italian in my opinion. Whilst the locals all spoke French, the food and architecture seemed more in keeping with a quaint Italian sea-side town than a French city.
Whatever the influence, we all fell in love with the place almost instantly. I think Barcelona ...
We awoke on this last day of the cruise to be coming in to Portoferraio! A beautiful clear day in the harbor of the Island of Elba. It is the islands largest city and because of its terrain many of its buildings are situated on the slopes of a tiny hill surrounded on three sides by the sea!
