Bluebay Getaway Villas Doradas Puerto Plata

Just returned on March 28th 2003 following a 2 week stay. This was my fourth time back to the Playa Dorada Area. My first and last time to the Villas Doradas. The food lacks quality and imagination, it all looks the same for lunch and supper. If you like breakfast this will be your best meal . The A la Carte seafood and chinese resturant are not worth making a reservation. The Beach Club and Grill were okay. The rooms are large and kept fairly clean (don't leave your windows open or you will be invaded by small ants). The rooms don't resemble the brochure pictures. The tables in the dining area were filthy. During my 2 week stay I never seen the tables wiped down once with a wet cloth (the same stains were on the tables from day to day). Some staff did not seem to enjoy there job, yet there were others that went out of there way for you.The evening entertainment was fair. The pool area is small but was kept clean. I would not recommend this hotel, there are certainity better 3 star hotels is the area.

I visited this hotel in Feb 2003. The hotel really is more like a 2 star in all honesty and is very basic in all areas. There is no customer service, especially at mealtimes where you have to get your own drinks from the bar and not once did anyone ask if we enjoyed our meal. The general bar and hotel staff hardly smiled the whole holiday! However, the fun team did a good job of entertaining those who wanted daytime activities, but could be very noisy around the pool and you often get dragged up to partake at times when you just want to chill out, which can become a drag if you just want to relax sometimes as we all do on hol!! I wouldnt recommend this hotel unless you just want a cheap getaway as the whole deal you get is very basic. Evening entertainment is not entertaining. Hotel bedrooms clean but dull and you really want to spend as little time in them as possible. Really would consider going to another hotel if you visit the Dominican which is a lovely place - this hotel does it no justice. Where ever you decide to stay - hope you have a fab time - and steer clear of the 151 Rum - I paid the penalty!!!

I went to the villas doradas in Nov 2002. And had a brilliant time. The hotel was basic, but everything else there made up or it. The food was ok, but the beach and pools were fantastic. This hotel is only rated as a 3 star and I think that people need to remember this. The fun team were absolutely fantastic. Can anybody tell me of either Donkey, Coffee, Willy or Speedy are still there??? This was a really good and fun holiday, but it is true if you want class then their is no point coming here. I neva paid a lot for this holiday at all and I think wot I did pay was well worth it.

Recently returned from a hol here. The hotel is basic and the rooms very plain and dark. Evening entertainment consisted of Bingo and Karaoke which was like a british working mens club gone wrong. Food was okay, but nothing to rave about. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone at all.

My husband and I are both in our 20's. We booked the holiday as a last minute deal. The hotel itself is very very basic, and the staff miserable. The food however is lovely. If you just want to laze by the pool its a nice holiday - but if you want a bit of class and entertainment in the evening - FORGET IT and go somewhere else. Nice weather, but on the whole the hotel is just basic. Bathrooms in the room are awful!

The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are kept clean - beds and towels changed daily. The Fun Team are excellent. They work and play hard all day and most of the night too. Drinks plentiful although some of the bar staff could try and put a smile on their faces. Food is good, we had no problems although there were two particualr couples that moaned consistently. Personally I think that even Harrods food would not have suited them! Watch out for "Charlie Brown" - lovely guy, hard working but ...

I Love it there i came back about a month ago it is the best holiday ive ever had. ive been there two years running and hope to go again next year. Staff are brilliant and cant do enough for you. Entertainment is excellent there is even a Michael Jackson look alike. I made plenty of Dominican friends who are absolutely brilliant. I didn't want to leave!

We arrived on the 27th and were told the hotel was overbooked but that we could stay at the Doradas Club down the road and use the Villas Doradas facilities. The Doradas Club is not kept up, rooms are outdated and electric wiring was hanging loose. We saw people checking out of the Villas Doradas and of course assumed that we would be next in line as we had confirmed reservations. Surprise surprise, a new party was going to get all the rooms and the reception clerk refused to call the manager. After some arm wrestling we were all of a sudden told that a room would be available the NEXT day. At the Villas Doradas it was barely OK -

the bar has no tonic so forget about gin or vodka tonic and the wines are poisenous. There is no customer service at this hotel - it's crowd control. Would not recommend to anybody.

Doradas... The hotel is great, well laid out with two great pools...

The staff are all unbelievably friendly from the maids to the bar staff

to the Fun Team, who made every day and evening a lot more

entertaining... One of the bar staff even spent his day off with us and

took us to see some of the places in Puerto Plata you wouldn't

generally see through a tour operator... If you're willing to join in

with the silly games you'll get a lot out of it, but even if you're

just out for a good ****-up or sun-tan you should have a great time

there.

An absolutely Fabulous Hotel.

The location is stunning, the staff are very friendly

Hard working and very clean!

The food is great (although everyone has ther own tastes!)

The Fun Team are really entertaining both by day and by night.

Catamaran trips are worth every peso--a fantastic day out.

Jeep safari trip is excellent as is Paradise Island-Stunning!

A wonderful holiday--You should try it.

We'll be back next year for sure!
