Last vacation before Italy
Jens and I flew out of Düsseldorf into Enfidha, Tunesia. The plane was very small and hot. From above it totally looked like we were landing in the ocean, but luckily there was an airport on land :-). It rained when we arrived and I was not happy about that. I wanted the sun, but it got warmer the next days. We spend a lot of time at the beach, and ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Bella Vista Monastir
Never a 4 star hotel
Plumbing should be condemed... \dangerous.... Hotel would be closed down on safty issues if in EU. We all got food poisioning. Entertainment was terrible, However the staff were lovely and the chamber maids were the greatest ever.
The restarunt manager was the rudest ever and lucky to still have all his teeth. The rest of his staff were fantastic. The reception was lovely and pool, as soon as you go upstairs its third world. The hotel is rated 4* however this is Tunisia 4* that would be a EU 1* or not listed.
Not deserving of the bad reviews in our opinion
we as a couple visited this hotel for one week in june 2006 and cant really understand why previous reviews were so bad, perhaps they are just serial complainers. the staff, although struggling to grasp english made a great effort to understand, were always polite courteous and worked with a smile on their face. the cleanliness of the hotel was generally very good, yes there were small problems with ants in some rooms(bear in mind this is africa) but they were dealt with very quickly and efficiently.
the bar staff were great, the waiting staff and food also very good, with a fairly large selection of foods every night in the restaurant. the pool was excellent, as was the beach, always clean and with soft white sand. the entertainment wasnt perhaps the best and more aimed at a more european audience, but from what we did watch they put a lot of effort into it.
the only downside was the hotel location, you are literally 5 minutes walk from the airport, but you dont really notice the aircraft noise, however as far as nightlife goes outside the hotel, your looking at a taxi to sousse or monastir, or further afield to port el kantaoui, although dont let this put you off as it sure beats waiting on your bus to the airport. all in all we were very pleased and we would consider returning in the fututre.
More recent and better
well, i dont understand why people would moan about the tv.... who needs it when your on holiday!? we never had enough time because we were having so much fun!
entertainment woz the best, and ther woz never anything like bingo? they got the crowd up to play funny games which included myslf, u just have to let go and have a laugh! also ther woz funy shows wer the team jus made prats out of ther selfs n we al loved it!!
the whole pool and area woz very clean, and so woz our room, which got cleaned and tided everyday. the beach woz lovely with white soft sand and clear blue sea, all of the staff wer gr8, always things to do or time to relax n catch a tan.
food woz interesting, im a plan burger kinda girl so i woz a bit fussy but thts foreign food for ya! and the range of alcohol woz not alot but hay tht doesnt even make a difference at all coz it woz stil one of the best holidays iv been on!!
Not to be repeated......
My sister and I visited this hotel on 19th September a week before the 'good' review you see here.
What a difference a week made, Changing Rooms must have been in!
Whilst I agree the staff were amiable and their ability to converse in most languages admirable, however, their ability to understand that some people had gone just to lie by the pool was far from spot on, the rep was exactly the same.
The hotel was clean but was in places desperate in need of a face lift. I fail to understand how it achieved the four stars it has, having visited a neighbouring three star hotel after a flight delay in comparison ours looked more like a two star.
Our rep, when he could manage it, was amiable and if you had a query and you could find him, he would do his best to help.
The entertainment was to say varied, our experience included a game of bingo with cocktail sticks as the hotel had ran out of pens!
I had heard so many good reports about Tunisia and unfortunaltey my experience hasn't endeared me or my sister ever to return. I think I can safely say that for nearly all members of not only our flight home, but, for the other three chomping at the bit in departures to return home to good ol' blighty.
If you do decide to try your luck, I really do hope you strike it lucky, I think this hotel needs a little time and money spent on it and it would be a great place to stay, shame becaue the staff were helpful and took pride in their individual parts around the place.
I think it's expensive for what it is when it would appear there are better lower rated hotels for less money to choose from.
What do people expect
We have just returned from a two week holiday at this hotel and simply cannot understand the review on this site. The staff were exceptional, polite, smiling and multi-lingual, ( find an English person who can switch betwen German, French, Italian, and Arabic) the hotel spotlessly clean (unless a tourist had grubbified it one minute before a cleaner had got there) the food more than adequate - what more do you want apart from a dedicated pasta bar (freshly cooked), salad, meal of the day including steak and chicken, soup, and 'it' and chip buffets for the children and as for flies, they couldn't land on the food unless a client had uncovered the cling film on the plates and left it open. We wanted a quiet holiday - we got one but there was entertainment if you wanted it. The rep was unobtrusive but there when you needed him, the swimming fantastic - but they do need to watch the idiots who like to zoom round mindlessly on jet skis (mainly English and German who don't obey safety rules) And please, when you go abroad appreciate that the Macdonalds and baked beans culture isn't the be all and end all. And be polite. The amount of ill mannered abuse the staff took from all nationalties made me furious. And by the way the room was great and we didn't want Sky movies round the clock. And when I was stung by a jellyfish I received immediate care.
A happy customer, Swansea
Gross Misrepresentation
This Hotel is not a 4 star, half of the few things in the gym didn't work, only a few staff could speak english, although they tried to be nice. The flies were all over the cold food morning, noon & night. The resturant was really a canteen, the tables were often unclean. Anyone use to 3 star and above should not to go there. I travelled with my family for 7 days, we had to move into 3 different rooms, the first room was infested with ants and the hotel didn't have any insecticide, there was only one english channel on the TV, which didn't have remotes. In one room the shower was broken, the hotel didn't have a first aider, so when one woman was almost decapitated during power guilding she had no initial care from the hotel. I could go on
