i went to this hotel and thought it was the best place on earth i had a brillent time the food was wonderful and the staff were very friendly i cant wait to go back!!
Not a five star - terrible
Had to pay extra money to transfer to another hotel but it was worth it. The hotel room was dirty, had dead spiders plastered to the wall. The musty smell was unbearable and the air condiitioner was so noisy, it had to be turned off to use the phone. The grounds were beautiful but the food and service terrilble. The staff did not speak english and simple requests (a spoon please) was difficult to impossible in the restaurants. At one point, a lady cleaning the washroom literally grabbed by daughter and pushed her into a washroom stall. Not knowing english, I assumed she thought our conversation was that of my daughter being unhappy with the line up whereas it was her hugging me and telling me that she loved me. This was totally unacceptable behaviour for staff to even grab a child. It was ridiculous to have to rida a trolley to all restaurants since they were all distantly placed from the rooms and the fumes from these carts continuously driving throughout the resort were awful. The pools, being surrounded by trees, were too cold for the kids and there were no activities promoted for them, only on one sign that had absolutely no english interpretaton. Alot of money for nothing.
Best vacation ever!
I went to Bavaro Princess with my family January 19th - 27th (2003). I thought that it was the best vacation ever. Although there were a couple down points to the trip, they definately didn't make a difference in how i felt about it. The only thing that i really didn't like about it was the bathroom, at first it kind of smelled musty, but after we let it air out it was all better. I thought that the food in the buffet line wasn't overly great, but if you got yourself into one of the actual restuarants in the resort then the food was pretty good. I thought that the steak house was the best one there though. The beach was awesome. The water was really clean and warm, and the sand was really soft to walk on. I thought that the pool was really nice. It was real big, it had a waterfall, and a wet-bar. I liked to get frozen lemonades there. The rooms are really nice too. I liked how the bedroom was set-up. The resort was set-up like a little village, and to get around it they had a little bus that you could take. The lobby area was nice too. They have alot of different animals living in the resort. And on the path they have a little walk that you can go on and it has a bunch of bird cages with birds from all over the world. I don't see how the people that had bad reviews could possibly think that way about it. And the people that complained about an "overly whelming stench" along the path, aren't telling you the whole truth. There was only a small part that had the waste area, and other than that part it didn't smell at all. The weather was really warm. Over all I thought that it was the best vacation that you could ever go on, and i would go back there anyday.
Where are all these bad reviews coming from.
The grounds are the first thing that strike you. They are huge (20 minutes to walk from end to end) and the flora is phenominal. There is a nice mix of palm and various other trees and bushes which made the scenery very appealing.
The rooms were simple but nice. One review states that everything was damp, but what do you expect in a hot humid climate. I found that running the AC on high solved most of the humidity problems.
It was difficult to find English speaking staff. I would suggest the check-in staff if you are looking for English. Most of the staff had French as their second language rather than English. I had no problem ordering food or drink(That's why we pick all inclusive right? Am I really going to whine because the hair dryer doesn't work? I don't think so.)
Food at the buffets was mediocre. Chopin far outweighs Hispanola in quality so I would suggest having breakfast there. Have them cook an omlette the way you want it and you can't go wrong. Make the effort to get up early and make reservations for one of the specialy rests as they are far superior where supper is concerned. The service is good and the Pescador(seafood) is excellent.
The beach is beautiful and despite the claims in previous reviews I had "0" trouble getting a beach chair at any time of day.
This is an excellent place to spend a vacation. Do not let the previous evaluations deter you. These are whiny people complaining about minor details. Go to this resort.
It Was Great!
If you can't find something nice to say about this place then there's something wrong with you. The grounds, rooms, beach, pools and restaurants were clean and wonderfully kept. There was nothing wrong with the food considering you're in a different country and they prepare food differently. We always found something to eat and never left hungry. As far as the language barrier - everyone there made a huge effort to speak english. People have to remember that they're in the Dominican Republic NOT CANADA. We had no problem communicating what we wanted. The beach is the best beach we have ever seen!! The people were friendly and the service was excellent. An employee who was originially from canada assisted us with booking snorkelling excursions, deep sea fishing, etc. Very easy to get along with and his english was as good as ours! We have no idea what people are talking about with the beach chairs. We were at the resort at the same time as all the other people bitching about the chairs. They were obviously looking in the wrong spot because there were plenty of chairs where we were by the beach bar and I assure you we were never at the beach before 10 a.m. Whoever says the pool was dirty must be a ridiculous clean freak! We didn't see any dirt in the pool or around the pool. They have people sweeping the pool deck all day. We read some reviews where people bitched about the tram being too crowded and not coming around often enough. It's true that it's sometimes crowded but if you're patient the next one will be there in about two or three minutes. If you're not patient then you should just walk. It would do you some good and nothing's that far away. If we would have read these reviews before we left we would have missed out on an excellent vacation. There was no robbery on te horse back riding excursion. That was a huge rumour. There's no problem making phone calls from your room. We called home several times both direct and collect. The phone calls were certainly no more ex
nders were great and quick with your drinks. Never waited in line. We tipped them a dollar for their service and they had a drink ready for us before we even got to the bar. They're very appreciative of tips and they certainly deserve them. This is definitely at least a four star resort. It's probably the most beautiful place you'll ever see. The only advice we'd have for someone is to buy the V.I.P. Package. We didn't and we wished we had. It entitles you to premium drinks, heinekin beer, easier to make dinner reservations ( which are required at the a la carte restaurants), a massage and dinner at Licey's Gourmet restaurant). Certainly worth the money.
Our friends got married while we were there and it was absolutely beautiful. The resort went to a lot of trouble to decorate with fresh flowers and the wedding co-ordinator was very helpful. All in all we had a wonderful trip and would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys spending time at the beach or around the pool. If you're into find dining then don't go to another country. Every country cooks in their own way. They'd probably find that our food tastes different too. Don't listen to the rest of the reviews. Those people are obviously bitchy and don't know how to have fun!
The food was terrible, attractive to look at , but everything was soaked or cooked or smelled like ROTTEN fish !
The language BARRIER was horrible , except at the markets , they all but carried you into their shops. Were insulting if you bought from some-one
ONLY like U.S. money and won't except Canadian or even their own if given a choice.
The grounds are lovely , but the stench of sewer is overwhelming.
I returned after ! week of eating cucumbers and coke and had to go the hospital as I was de-hydrated and sick .
There were multiple robberies from the rooms ,and on the horse rides.
BEAUTIFUL to look at , BUT NOT WORTH the money or the hassle .go to Mexico and save your money and have more fun .
Bavaro Princess - not a 5* resort
Grounds were beautiful. The hotel was seriously over-booked and the staff was overwhelmed to say the least. With some training in customer service this may one day be a 5* resort but they have a long way to go. Problems every day to get a beach chair. Food and entertainment only marginal. Would not go back.
Absolutely PATHETIC!!!! I have never been to a hotel were the staff was so inconsiderate and pig-headed! They lacked all possible public relations skills! Cracks in the walls, in the bathtubs, ants from all over, cockroaches, .... UGH! They advertise newly renovated rooms! NO WAY!!! And the VIP package they speak so highly of.... well, I had that package... and I could count how many employees even knew about it! We had to fight for everything ... even the advertised 2 bottles of water per day! I will return to Punta Cana... as the weather was beautiful and the beaches were clean... BUT I will never step foot into the Bavaro Princess again!
Do Not go THERE
Holiday worst ever. Staff inefficient, food terrible no service whatso ever. rooms in shambles. Bugs, ants and cockroaches in rooms.
Bavaro Princess, the best resort
The Bavaro Princess is truly a five-star hotel. It is located on a huge are covered with lush gardens and palm trees as far as the eye can see. Many restaurants, two buffet that were very good, and four specialty restaurants that were not great. Huge beautiful beach. Main activity was beach volleyball in which everyone participated, and had fun. The "Animation", or activity staff, are a wonderful group of people who lead the guests in different activities every day. The daily after-dinner show is very nice and the all-night disco is wonderful. This is the best resort that I have been to so far, and I have travelled much. Great for the family, couples, or just teens looking to have fun. Two thumbs up!

This was our fourth stay in a Punta Cana resort, but the sole opportunity in which we had not option to choice it. The stay was booked as an extension of our cruise by Western Caribbean Sea and by the times we booked it, the Princess was already the sole option available. However, this was not important, being then a priority for us to have a …
I still can't believe that I managed to convince Dave to come to Punta Cana. It's not his type of place, to say the least. Between the beaches, buffets and sunburns, it was quite a culture shock for my boyfriend. He thought that we'd only see poverty, and while there certainly were some sad moments, he seemed shocked that this beautiful country's …
... or I assume they do. I also recommend not leaving the "Hotel Zone" because that is probably where "bad" things could happen. As you drive to your hotel you will see an inordinate amount of poverty so you might want to avoid trouble by just driving by and not stopping.
The hotel itself was pretty modern and did not have the feeling of being outdated at all (which can be the case with "all ...
