We have just returned late last night from our vacation at the resort.
I would have to say this was the WORST resort I have ever stayed at. My husband and I have traveled extensively throughout the caribean and this was the by far the most disappointing resort we had ever been to.
To start off the most of the staff refuses to speak english, the are rude, go out of their way to ignore you. The food was terrible! The buffets were basically the same everyday. The best restaurant was the mexican - which isn't saying much. The line ups for dinner at any restaurant were long. If you wanted anything you would need to ask at least 3 times before anyone would get around to it (maybe). The room we had was large (two story loft) with a king size bed and two full bathrooms but was infested with ants, toilets hardly flushed and the water pressure in the shower was none existent. If you wanted to sit pool side, good luck by 9 am all the beach chairs were gone. Then we have the shows in the evening. Their Tropicalissmo show was the same every night and they did not even change it for their big New Years Eve Gala. The first time we went to the show we all left half was through it because it was BORING! Don't bother with the shows at the other resorts you had access to because they were the worst resort shows I have ever seen. The beach was nice powdery white sand but up about a 10 minute walk you will find a sewage outlet right into the ocean, which turned me off from swimming in the ocean at this resort. We did speak to many other people during our stay at this resort and I would have to say I did not speak to anyone that would go back to the resort for the same reasons I have just posted. The largest complaints from was of the staffs attitude and the food. I would not recommend this resort or any of the Barcelo Bavaro properties to anyone unless you enjoy throwing your time and money away.
Great resort

My wife and I visited this resort the last week of January. We were originally booked in to the casino resort. Upon our arrival we were told that we would be placed at the golf resort. They told us we could move back to the casino the next day. After getting to our room at the golf resort we definitely did not want to move. Our room was a condo with a second floor loft which contained a king size bed, 4 piece bath and a huge area for suitcases and closet space. The main floor had another 4 piece bath, another bedroom and a main sitting area with 2 balconies( front and back) It is not my first visit to the Dominican so I have expierenced many types and qualty of food. I have to rate the food here in the top two resorts I have been to. The lobster right on the beach is excellent. My favorite place to eat was the mexican. The beach there rivals the Mayan Riveria. The staff were very good. The bar tenders at the golf resort pool bar were as good as I have experienced. Never a shortage of alchohol in a drink. The girls at the casino lobby bar were great. When we arrived back home my wife realized she had left a couple of items in the room. I e-mailed the resort and Bernardo the manager was quick to respond letting me know they had our items. Within no time they were sent back to us via UPS "PREPAID" That was great service. How many resorts would just brush you off ?? Would without any reservations reccomend this resort to anyone looking to go to Punta Cana

I was very desappointed in the food at the resort. My husband & I both got sick and had to visit the Dr. which cost me $100.00. Alot of the people at the beach resort got dirreah. My room was near the Dr.'s office and I talked to at least 15 people when I was there, that got sick. The rooms were no where near a 4 star rating, more like a 2 star. I will not be coming back.
A relaxing trip

My family and I recently stayed at Barcelo Bavaro Beach. We had a great time. Most of the employees there were very friendly although a few were anything but friendly. Many of the people that worked there tried there best to speak english. The beaches were the prettiest I have ever seen. One of the things that many of us were so grateful to leave for was American food such as chocolate and certain types of cokes.Over all it was a great trip with only a few flaws.
A fabulous resort
from Dustbeanie
This was our first time to the Dominican Republic at the Bavaro Casino Resort (1 of the 4 resorts). My husband and I went with another couple the week of March 15. Upon arrival at the hotel we were extremely impressed with the hotel lobby. Beautiful! with all the spotless tiles and the wicker decor. Of all the 4 hotel lobbies and bar areas contained within, both couples preferred the Casino over all the others. We immediately went for lunch to wait for our room. The buffet was simply wonderful and what a selection. Our room was ready after we finished our lunch. When the door opened to our rooms, we gasped in awe as we were lucky enough to receive a loft room. The room had a couch over 12 feet long on the main floor with a TV, bathroom, separate area for the sink and a lovely balcony. The upstairs contained the king size bed with another bathroom with another separate area containing the sink and mirrors. The floors were terra cotta tiled and completely spotless. The bathrooms also were completely spotless. We were overly impressed with the cleanliness of the entire complex. The pool area was beautiful with the friendliness hotel waiters and waitresses. The girls were always smiling and singing. Can't say enough about them! We did check out the beach, garden and palace facilities too. We were extremely happy with the Casino as the pool area was much quieter. It seems the younger ones like the beach resort. We tried all the restaurants and two different buffets and were extremely pleased with the food. The Steak Restaurant, we found, was not that good but the service was excellent. We also had a very nice lunch right on the beach. Overall the food was fabulous and enjoyed every meal. I put the weight on to prove it!The beach is very lovely and clean as it is groomed every day. What a beautiful view. The gardens are breathtaking in their loveliness. We also used the casino facility at night and had a blast. We were successful in winning some, but, managed to pump most of it back in the casino by the end of the week! The only complaint that we have was getting American dollar bills to use for tips. The other couple we were with had not bought enough dollar bills and practically had to beg to get change. It didn't matter what resort we were at no one could even break a ten. So take this advice and bring your own American dollar bills from home.I highly recommend this resort and welcome any questions you may have. Do not hesitate to go to the Bavaro Complexes, it is wonderful.

While this was our second time visiting your resort we could not believe that for a whole week the toaster was broken...now this is not a big thing but no effort was made on your part to even look into it or fix it....(very disappointing)...also the bathrooms are very dirty and in our bathroom there were ants crawling all over the toilet seat..(every day the same thing)! and also our shower head was broken for the whole week and could not be fixed....they tried to fix it but it never was usable....plus the air conditioner was very moldy and I came back with a lung infection.....and my husband has been on medications since we came back......although the grounds and beach area are immaculate I think now it is time that the owners spend some money on the renovations of the rooms.....thank you d wood

Something great, something bad

Went to BBCasino, march 2003 for 2 weeks to play golf. Accomodation was OK. If you ask for a room on top floor, you get a suite with the bed and bathroom in the loft. Another complete bathroom on mail floor. Food was better at other resorts in complex (Garden, Beach) We played golf almost every day eventhough brochure says maximum of 4 rounds per week. Wait in line for supper, no possibility of reservations in restaurants. Service all over was poor until you start tipping, and still not comparable to other hotels previously attended. Iberostar Punta Cana beats this resort by a mile. Only very positive thing, lots of chairs at beach and pools, no need to get up early to reserve. Golf course right on complex.
The best resort you can ever imagine

My family and I have been going to Bavaro Golf and Casino for the past three years. Our first time was fantastic (1999). We are going to go in two to three weeks from now. I can't wait! The food is great and there is such a variety. You can enjoy pleasant meals at the each of the hotel's restaurants. Or you can try the fabulous SteakHouse and Mexican restaurant, too. I love the hotel pools. They are always clean (which is important), and the activities are sooooo much fun. Nightly entertainment is great, humorous, and very well performed. The bar and service are wonderful and punctual. We loved the service and our rooms were always clean. I give Barcelo Bavaro Beach Golf and Casino Resort a 5 rating because I love the place. And I can't wait till I go there again in a few weeks. I recommend this resort to anyone who is ready to have fun and much relaxtion on their vacation.
Complaint Letter sent to resort management...

Please find attached a letter sent to the Barcelo Bavaro Casino Resort in
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. You could consider it our review of our
vacation.
To whom it may concern,
We have just arrived home from your resort from a 6 night stay. I can
assure you that we will never return (we visit the Dominican Republic at
least once a year) due to your very poor service and lack of hospitality.
Although many of your staff were very friendly, most that we spoke to were
very unwilling to help.
Upon arriving to your resort, we were placed in the wrong grade of room and
called the front desk. We had spoken to Frankie and he was unwilling to
move us until 5:00 the next day. Were we to unpack our belongings, only to
waste more of our time packing it up, moving rooms, and then unpacking yet
again? That is not our responsibility. It would have been simple to go
back to the front desk and relocate immediately, but nobody seemed to be
interested in our dillemma. The room we ended up staying in was not very
clean. There was dirt on the floors and in the fridge. The bathroom door
did not close and the condition of the bathroom was the worst we have ever
seen. The lamp beside our bed was broken also.
On our first night we went for a swim in your pool and accidently left a
pair or prescription eyeglasses at the pool side (as it was dark). The next
morning we returned early to get them and they were gone. We were not
expecting your resort to take responsibility, since it was our mistake, but
when we went to the front desk to ask if they had been found, nobody took
the time to call the see if they were found. Is that too much to ask?
Would it be asking too much to take 2 minutes to call around to see if there
were found? All we received was a "NO!" with no service to investigate. We
think the care and attention to your guests is poor. The treatment you give
your guests when they have questions is sub-standard and I do not plan to be
quiet about it.
Upon inquiring about a later check out (1:00 instead of 12:00) we were told
"NO!" again. Was that too much to ask? Why was there no effort to
accomodate such a small request? Does your staff not feel that they have an
obligation to satisfy the customer? I have never been so disappointed with
service in my worldwide vacations. Your resort has a lot to learn about
service and customer loyalty. You must understand that it is the little
things that make a positive impression and will result in customers
returning to spend their money. (If anyone has any business training - you
would know that exponential sales are the most profitable.) Instead of us
coming home and posting positive reviews on your resort - we will be doing
the opposite!
Rest assured, that when we return to Punta Cana in October, we will be
booking at the Iberostar resorts as they have got service as their first
priorty. You have a lot to learn.
Keep an eye on the reviews for your resort on the internet - where many
people these days research vacations - we plan to tell the whole story for
all to see.
Of course, with your service standards I do not expect to hear any sort of
apology - as I have come to understand that you do not value your guests, or
the money they bring to your resort.
Sadly dissappointed,
Stephen Rankin
