Historical Traveler Reviews of Baobab Beach Resort Ukunda

Excellent

from ScotlandTravel-lover
Spent 3 nights here at the end of our safari holiday and could have stayed longer. Beautiful setting on Diani Beach.

Room was very clean. Food excellent, plenty of choice and freshly cooked while you watched. Very friendly entertainment team.

Were allowed to use the facilities at next door Kole Kole. Fantastic infinity pool and preferred the atmosphere here. Found it hard to go onto the beach as constantly pestered by the beach boys.

Fantastic

Friendly, efficient, luxurious, beautifully set out and maintained.

Very Well Run- Excellent!!!

from kariba100
We stayed at the Baobab for 2 weeks in June and had a fantastic time! It is managed by a Swiss and German couple who ensure everything is run like clockwork. It has beautifully kept gardens where one can escape and sun tan with the sound of the waves lapping the shores or you can choose to be at the pool were most of the daily activities occur. The meals are fantastic with theme nights twice or 3 times a week. The waiters and chefs were fantastic and so friendly (Masoud, Vincent, Rama, David and Titus to name a few)

The entertainment team will always keep you busy throughout the day and the the evening shows are easily the the best in Diani. If you are keen on scuba diving, the reefs are unspoiled and you will encounter everything the you will see in the Red sea or the Maldives (Diving the Crab- see Subi and Henry)

They also have a Spa and massage centre which offers great value for money with a 1 hour massage costing £20.

Also dont miss the A la Carte resturant which serves Prawns and Lobsters Chinese style!

We could not fault anything with this resort and will be back next year!!!!! - Kevin and Clara

Baobab Beach Resort was Excellent

from AngloKiwi
We have just returned from a fabulous 2 week holiday in this top hotel. Most impressive has to be the food! We went All Inclusive and was very pleased to find that no wrist band was required and bottled water was included. No dishes left to fester for hours under warming lights in this hotel, everything was freshly cooked in front of us and was top quality food. Even fruit and salad can be safely eaten here. Gentlemen are asked to wear trousers in the evening and this is indeed a place where the ladies can dress up if they wish to and not feel out of place (although the hotel info. says casual dress it is smart casual to smart). We had to join the gym (£10 for the week) that's how good the food was!!

Hotel Management are a very welcoming and friendly German couple who are very involved, meeting you on arrival, eating in the restaurant and drinking at the bar with the guests. They hold a Bingo night once a week and the money raised goes towards helping a mentally and physically challenged school in the area. I was fortunate enough to go along and see the annual presentation so can assure you it is very worthwhile (wheelchairs, bedding etc. for the 109 children who live at the school).

There is a nice mix of nationalities at the Baobab, mainly German & English when we were there. The general ambiance is lovely (definitely not for the larger louts!) There is an hour of classical music between 6 and 7 on the lawn every evening.

The bar comes alive from 9.45 to 11p.m. with a good selection of dance music. After 11p.m. drinks have to be paid for.

Our room and the hotel generally was kept spotlessly clean. Staff were all smartly dressed, polite and friendly. The animation team is not to be missed - another highlight of this hotel.

The beach is beautiful and yes, there are sellers waiting for you to step onto it, but if you are firm they will go away (most of the time). We enjoyed swimming in the warm sea.

This is the rainy season and if you come at this time of year you must appreciate that you may have a few days of continuous rain. I believe it improves by the end of June but we had 3 days continuous monsoon rain and rain most mornings.

We did a 2 day (1 night) safari staying at Little Governors camp on the Masai Mara which we thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend, although it is a 2 hour flight from Diani and is probably the most expensive safari (approx £350 each) through First Choice.

Perfection???

from Monkey007
If you are looking for perfection in Kenya then look no further! This hotel was perfect to use as a relaxing retreat whilst doubling up as a base for Safari and diving excersions. The staff were friendly informative and always on hand for any requests we had. They offered activites and excersions thorughout the day (snorkeling, safaris etc) , and a friendly (Great cocktails, at very reasonable prices) bar area at night where traditional dacing/singing was the main entertainment. The resort itself was set on the coast, overlooking beautiful white sands and a clear blue see, having breakfast on the terrace staring out at this will convince anyone that getting up early on holiday is a worth while treat. Get there as soon as you can, this is not to be missed.

Great stay!

Baobab Beach Resort is located at Diani Beach, Mombasa South.

We booked the hotel direct at the reception, because we were staying at Beachalets, about 500 meter south from Baobab, and decided to upgrade our holiday for our remaining stay in Mombasa.

Baobab is mostly visited by German tourists who made their booking through TUI. Even when the hotel is almost fully booked, the atmosphere is still quite relaxed and never busy.

From the hotel, you can choose to make trips through their own travel agents or you can walk to the beach and get a much better deal from the local beach boys (but be careful with those guys, they ask too much (at first, so bargain!) and might not give you exactly what you asked for)...

Rates are all in, that means breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner (all buffet), entertainment, (local) drinks (until 11pm) and more.

The Wellness Center is extra, but the rest of the facilities are inclusive. There's also an extra bar and restaurant with an alternative menu where you'll have to pay seperate.

All in all a good stay in a well maintained resort with happy people... a true Hakuna Matata holiday!

Fabulous Holiday!

from TheCursedVagrant
We stayed at the Kole Kole part of the Baobab Beach Resort at the beginning of March. We had booked a week's Tanzanian Safari with First Choice as the first week of our holiday and arrived at the Kole Kole dusty and tired after a wonderful experience. The rooms at Kole Kole are excellent. Being only just opened, everything is shiny and new. The superior room have two large four poster beds, tables and chairs, TV, kettle, hairdryer etc. and are large in size. Balconys have table and chairs and a day bed. The ground floor rooms are not to my taste as they seemed a little open to view.

The complex is self contained though you are free to use the older Baobab part next door if you wish. There is a beautiful infinity pool which was never crowded. Indeed, the entire place never felt crowded since there are many little nooks and crannys to sit or lounge in.

The young animation team were very friendly and went out of their way to make all the guests ( mostly Italian ) feel at home. There is plenty to do around the resort during the day if you want to be active but you won't ever feel pressured to join in if you want peace and quiet.

We tried archery and diving. The afternoon "Intelligence Game " was a big hit with everyone.

Entertainmant was put on by the animators in the evening who were all very talented.

Food is fabulous! It was very difficult to choose since the chefs all tried to tempt you with their particular dish at each mealtime. Plenty of choice for you veggies as well.

The beach had its usual army of beach boys but a confident no thanks usually did the trick of making them leave you alone. A quiet walk along the beach was always possible at certain times of day.

For anyone that needs to stay in touch there is internet access available 24/7 in a little air conditioned IT room.

All in all, a fabulous resort. Go there, you won't be disappointed.

I've posted a few pics and a bit of video.

Excellent Hotel, Great Holiday

from Pannyann
We stayed at this hotel in February and had the most amazing holiday. The food is great, lots of choice and over the two weeks the food did not become boring. There was a good choice of vegetarian food also. Desserts are amazing.

The hotel is very clean and the staff are always busy and willing to spend time with you. They do an excellent job. In the evenings there are live shows by the animation team and they are really good. Throughout the days there are various activities, Water Polo, Archery, Aquafit and much more. The animation team encourage people to join in but are also very respectful if you say no or do not wish to do any activities.

The new wing Kole Kole is wonderful and the pool is amazing. The pool in the Baobab side is also very good and clean towels are provided as often as you wish.

The rooms we stayed in were very clean and tidy and they were cleaned to a very high standard. The monkeys roam around the grounds and sit on your balcony but I felt this added character to the hotel. We also went on Safari and checked out of our room however there is somewhere to store your luggage and we got exactly the same room on return. It had an amazing view.

The hotel Baobab side is 95% German occupied so do take plenty to read as the books at the hotel are all in German. The Kole Kole side is Italian mainly.

Overall this was a great holiday and the Staff really make this place a great place to stay. I have always said never go back, but this is somewhere we certainly would go again.

Great Stay at Baobab & Kole Kole

from Scorpio74
The Baobab Beach Resort is a lovely hotel. Nice beach right alongside the hotel and there are plenty of activities to keep anyone amused.

We stayed in a superior bungalow for a few days, the rooms were well furnished and in a good position.

The Kole Kole is the sister hotel right next door and you were allowed to use the facilities of both. The Kole Kole rooms were fantastic and we were able to spend the rest of holiday in this part of the resort. It only opened in Dec 06 and every room has a sea view. It's a much smaller complex and the beach, bar, pool etc are all closer together, whereas in the Baobab things are quite spread out.

There are two pools, one in each side and the new pool is wonderful. Each hotel has a bar area and restaurant. The food was great, such a huge variety for even the most picky eaters!

The Baobab is 99% German occupied and I understand the Kole Kole will be mainly Italian. Whist we were there we only found 8 other English couples in the entire resort, so take plenty of books as you won't be able to swap with anyone else and the library is all German!

The entertainment staff were wonderful and the evening shows were actually very good. The staff wonder round and talk to you throughout the day and will do anything to enhance your stay.

Plenty of activities from water polo to tae kwon do. Alternatively you can do nothing and watch the world go by, no one hassles you to join in if you just want to sit quietly.

Huge age range of people but tends to be on the older side, and also about 80% of them smoke. If you're a smoker fine, if not there is a non smoking area in the restaurant but in the bar everyone smokes.

Watch out for the extras, the gym and all spa treatments are extra, some of the water activities are extra and the all inclusive doesn't inclue premium branded spirits and it finishes at 11pm, thereafter you go to another bar in the complex (away from the rooms) and you pay for the drinks. Wasn't really a problem as you have the whole day to drink and it was only the hardened drinkers and party lovers who went on to the other bar!

Overall, great hotel and I would go back.

Best Hotel in Diani

from emzi
Just returned from the best holiday we have ever had. Wish we had gone here for our honeymoon! Baobab is the best resort on Diani beach, the beach has the whitest sand I've ever seen. The hotel is all inclusive and the food is great, so much choice... usually with all inclusive you tend to get bored after a while but each night there is a slight variation, there is also a show which starts at 9... The Massai dancers being my particular favourite.

The grounds are so well looked after, there is a team of gardeners who are always out there sweeping leaves and mowing the grass. The entertainment and activities are also good, from archery to water ball and shuffled board, there's something for everyone.

The monkeys are fascinating, they just appear on your balcony and walk by peoples sun beds, the most amazing experience.

The hotel next door Kole Kole was still under construction but we were able to walk round and have full use of their pool and ate one night in the restaurant, its all part of the Baobab resort.

Highly recommend the Mombassa by night tour, a most romantic evening. Also, get a taxi to Ali-Baba's cave restaurant... (yes its actually in a cave). We also took a taxi to the Diani Childrens village, (http://www.dianichildrensvillage.org) and took some sweets and crayons for the children, they have a nice set up there and any donations are much appreciated. We also went on safari for 3 days with DM tours, booking with DM meant we were in a Jeep for 5 instead of a packed out mini-bus as with the first choice safari's. On return to Baobab from safari we were greeted with fruit punch and smiles all-round.

To sum it up, Baobab is true paradise. Highly recommended, go here and you will not be disappointed. My husband always says the world is a big place and you should never go back to the same place more than once, with Baobab he's willing to make an exception.
