True Cracker!!

There isnt anything i can fault with this hotel, free booze, free Entertainment and a great entertainment team, Gemma is truely Beautiful if anyone has any good pics of her id love 2 see um. definatly a worth while trip and i am really missin the entertainment, the Bingo (ye sounds sad) but was really excited. its close to town and provides everything u need under 1 roof, including a cheap gift shop. If your questioning should i book this holiday the answer is yes!! if u change ur mind i'll go 4 u!!

You're all a bunch of complainers!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I've just come back from staying at the Ascos Hotel for two weeks and it was a fantastic place. For some reason there are many complaints about the hotel and I shall address them now:

1. Food being boring and canteen esq. Well it is only a four star hotel and it is all inclusive. I mean really, what do you except?! You want food on a silver plate then go 5*! The food was excellent with always a big range available.

2. Unclean pool/rooms. Rubbish, total rubbish. The only day our room wasn't cleaned was on the last and that was because we were checking aout at 5 in the afetrnoon. The hotel is spotless.

3. Entertainment dull. For gods sake its holiday entertainment!! You go to these places knowing that it will be a singing/dancing show almost every night. The entertainers were very good at their job (extremely good singers) and nearly everyone there had a fun time. I'm 24 so yes sometimes it wasn't lively enough for me but then I popped out for an evening in the local bars. There was bingo each night (I won £200!) and I know some people think it sounds dull but it was always a good laugh.

4. Hotel still being built. I don't know which hotel the guy who wrote this stayed in but the Ascos hotel is fully complete. There was building work in the nearby area, but in Cyprus you can't get away from that, the whole island is a building site.

5. Lifts very slow. I totally agree with this but is this really a major problem?!! You're on holiday, whats the rush?!

6. Long queues for drinks. If you want beer/wine/sopft drinks you pour them yourself. The only time there was a queues was if some one couldn't pour a decent beer. There was sometimes a queue of 4 people if you wanted a mixer, but again whats the rush?!

7. Waiters taking your plate just as you finish. This isn't the hotels fault, this is what they do in nearly 100% of the med countries! Go to Italy, Rhodes, Crete etc... and they often do this. They believe it is unpleasant to have a dirty plate in front of you so they remove it.

8. Staff unfriendly. All the staff I saw always greeted me with a smile (maybe its because I smiled at them!?). No more needs to be said.

9. Towels on beds. This I can't argue and it did annoy me. If you were up later then 9.30 you would be hard pushed to find a bed. Management did try and stop this (remove towels/lilos) but some guys still got up at 4 in the morning. Not really the hotels fault, just us British really! Its been the same in all hotels I've stayed in. The Germans have nothing on us British these days!

Anyway, if I think of any more I shall add it later. I had a wonderful time here and would strongly recommend it to friends without a doubt! Don't believe the other reviews, they had me scared for about 2 months before I went thinking I had made a bad decision. Just ignore them, nearly all the complaints are just typical whinging British!! I agree, it could be better, but if it was it would be a 5* not a 4* and would cost more. Come on guys, be realistic!

Hope this helps and you enjoy your stay there - I'm very jealous of you! Ed

The hotel from Hell

from A TripAdvisor Member
Where do i start with this hotel. The pool is nice and the food isn't bad. We were located in the annexe. On the first night, we noticed a constant banging noise. We complained to the reception the next morning and also to our Thomas Cook rep at the welcome. After complaining another five times, we were eventually moved a week into the holiday. The rooms were ok, could do with a new carpet or at least hoovered. The entertainment team was rubbish although we did win £120 on the bingo. If you decide to take a trip go to Nicosia, it is fantastic.

All in all - Cyprus is a beautiful island but if you go don't stay at the Ascos.

Ascos Beach A great disappointment

Readers might be wondering why there are such mixed reports from this hotel. Many have not liked it a few seem to say its getting better. Well if its getting better it must have been absolutely terrible before.

It is owned by Tsokkos hotels who are a building company who are trying to run the hotels they build. Well they have not in my opinion mastered the art of customer care in the hospitality industry. Hospitality is an alien concept here.

In reality the Ascos is an upmarket holiday camp. The hotel is certainly clean and maintenance is good. We had several things go wrong in our room and they were all fixed quite quickly. The lifts however were constantly out of order and several people became trapped in them while we were there. Maintenance were working on them every day.

The all inclusive concept however is pressured and mean spirited. Tiny glasses, plates whipped away before you have finished and a formulae approach to everything from the canteen layout of the dining room to the bland anglicised menus. The eastern European waiting staff hate the mangement with a passion, and since they are treated even worse than guests are treated I can see why.The pool looks nice but the hotel do not enforce their own rules about towels on sunbeds and its a jungle out there!

The entertainers were good natured but limited and the entertainment was holiday camp redcoat style. Bingo, quizzes, a bit of Karaoke, and the odd amateur show. However watching a display of line dancing is like watching paint dry! The reps spent a lot of time pressing guests to "tick the excellent box" which smacked of the underconfidence to us.

We booked a sea view room but were allocated one at the side of the building overlooking a building site and a road. You could see the sea by leaning over the balcony rail. Nothing we could do including involving the Olympic rep would pursuade them to move us to the room we had booked which they could easily have donegiven the numbers checking out on most days. The hotel does not have a concept of guests, only of units of production. My wife booked a massage and the masseur failed to do it. He just shrgged and and suggested another time to suit him rather than offering a refund. Reception have a technique of always telling you to come back later ( ie when they have gone off shift) so problems are never resolved and they hope people will just eventually give up.

In summary we came home thoroughly exasperated and deeply dissapointed. It is billed as a four star hotel but it is certainly not worth that rating. I have never felt moved to complain to a holiday company before let alone claim compensation, but I have done both now now. Cyprus is a very hospitable place but you will not find it here. I strongly urge readers to look elswhere . Your holidays are precious and these people just don't care .

A true view

I have just returned from this hotel and was pleasantly surprised. I was worried after hearing other people talking about it that it was not very good. I would return, it was fine. The food was nice, a good selection, and if you do not like anything in the restaurant there is a free (to all inclusive) snack bar serving things like Burgers toasted cheese sandwiches and salads. Please be aware that if you are a veggie, visit reception daily to order veggie meals from a menu before 12. The rep does not tell you this we found out from other guests.

The pool area was also good with a lovely pool and plenty of sunbeds.

It is a few minuets walk from the Coral bay stretch, with plenty of Bars etc.

The local bus NO 15 cost 70 cents to the beach at Coral bay and comes every 15 mins, if your energenic about a 20 min walk.

Rooms have t v and hairdryers and most important of all air con!

Enjoy your stay!

Conflicting reports

My partner and myself have just returned from 2 weeks stay in the Ascos Beach Hotel returned 14/07/05, before we went I was reading some reviews and the people that had been obviously wanted to be spoon fed.

The hotel staff were courteous always had a smile and a goodmorming for you. The pool was cleaned every morning, the rooms were cleaned everyday, the entertainment was absolutely brilliant daytime and evening.

Food was very good everything for all tastes.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who want to relax.

Ascos Beach Hotel - give it a try

from Truthfull_honest
We were worried about the hotel after reading many negative reports on numerous review sites about the Ascos Beach Hotel in Coral Bay. Our fears were put to rest during our week long stay at the hotel at the end of June returning on the 6 July 2005.

We particularly found the staff very friendly, and they could not do enough for you. Any requests were dealt with professionally, without any problem. It is true there is a new manager who has been there about 10 weeks, and we understand he is begining to put right any problem areas found in the past. However we had no concern for complaint.

We always found the pool clean, and could see it being cleaned each morning from our balcony.

The only negative point to comment on was the behaviour of a handful of british holidaymakers who did not have enough of the drinking and entertainment, but decided to conduct their own in their own way into the early hours of the morning.

We found the food to be of good quality with plenty of taste. We found any queueing at the bar or restaraunt was very quickly dealt with. The local drinks are fine and we found that when we stayed that Carlsberg was included in the draught beers.

Our two rooms were clean and we found no problems. Air conditioning was working efficiently in our rooms and as with all air conditioning is designed to cut out when doors are left open. Doesn't mean it's broken.

Clearly some people expect a five star hotel at a four star price. We have stayed in some very good hotels 5 star plus, and you only get what you pay for. You certainly get your monies worth at the Ascos.

I have a few pictures especially of the pool and balcony view if anyone is interested, I will forward on quite happily.

Could be better

from bazzer1
The Cyprus tourist authority have rated this hotel 4 star because of it's amenities. However the quality of the food and drink are below the standard that you would normally expect. We were all inclusive and found that food was often only warm but the choices were O. K.

One really annoying thing was the waiting to get a drink. At peak times (i.e when the evening entertainment was on) there would be a queue of 20 plus people waiting to get served.

A new manager and assistant manager have just been appointed and hope fully will sort out this problem also the cats that are allowed to wander round the outside area where breakfast and lunch can be taken.

This is the third time that we have stayed at this hotel and it will be the last.

Easter 2005

A little worried about this hotel having seen some reviews. However, having returned from a wonderful week wanted to put some of the doubters minds at rest.

The position of the hotel was excellent - not actually overlooking Coral Bay but overlooking the stoney but pleasant bay next door. To get to Coral Bay involved a 15 minute walk through the 'street' of Coral Bay town - not a problem in the warm (25 degree) spring temperature. Our allocated room overlooked the back of the hotel which was OK but not inspiring so we paid £50 extra for a sea/pool view - well worth every penny.

Food excellent, plenty of it and plenty of choice. We were half board which was fine except we did object to having to pay £1.50 for a cup of coffee after the evening meal.

Facilities excellent - especially the wonderful astra turf tennis court - playing late in the afternoon you could see the setting sun, look at the sea in the distance and then go for a swim/sauna inside, fantastic.

Staff were helpful, not overly friendly but smiled when spoken to - could seen a little aloof because very few spoke English (we think they came from the Baltics). Entertainment staff did their best, a difficult job when the hotel was only half full and not everyone was enthusiastic!

We did venture out once on the local bus to Pathos (easy) but only stayed 1/2 hour in the town and came back again. Pathos has changed beyond recognition in the passed 5 years, full of building work.

One big reservation - we had a fantastic holiday but am not sure how things would be in the height of the summer when the hotel and area is full. We had few queues in the restaurant, a choice of plenty of loungers, large swimming pool and the beach at Coral Bay quiet but pleasant. At time of writing Coral Bay was having two good looking toilet blocks added to each end. I would recommend the hotel to anyone on our experience.
