My head is in a spin

... famous archaeological site built by the Maya civilisation for photograph taking feast.

In tour van, disaster, nobody had even heard of Billy Ocean, disaster, nobody spoke English, luckily tour guide was bilingual. His time was split between English, Spanish, our van and another van - that was why it was 20 dollars cheaper than the other tour, figures. Anyways, we reach Chitchin Itza, out of this world, amazing place. Let ...

Tourist Tat Part 2

... a deco stop and I believe only bothered with a safety stop as Myk and I both did one. Next dive was shallow (around 12-15 metres) and while our DM didn’t bother with a safety stop, we kept under the surface for well over the three minutes since they decided not t bother with their SMB despite surfacing in a horrendously busy boat channel?? I would hate to think of nervous or inexperienced divers using this company as safety is about ...

Day 3--Cozumel, Mexico

... the ship. As soon as we stepped onto Mexican soil or rather Mexican concrete, I was grabbed by a Mayan warrior who insisted I take a picture with him. After the pleasantries and pictures were taken, we were free to explore. While walking away from the ship in the hot Mexican sun, I immediately started to feel the effects of it. Luckily I brought a towel from the ship and I wore it over my head to keep the sun from roasting my flesh. As we made our way to ...

Gorgeous beaches

Greetings from some of the most gorgeous beaches in the world. Today was the best day by far, but more about that later. Yesterday was a day at sea. I pretty much have no budget for this trip, so I don't get to gamble or drink that much which is all right. Yesterday I went and hung out at the pool for a while. I love swimming so I tried to get some done since that counts as pretty much my only form of exercise on this trip (other than all the stairs ...

Chan Chemuyil with Mom 2008, setting up Ak Kun

... the original one we had. The drinks hit the spot too. After we cleaned ourselves up, we went to the night show at the Tulum ruins "Tulum de Noche." The cost was $160 pesos for the entry ticket and then $60 pesos for the audio headset per person. This special 50-minute program is quite an organized production by INAH and Coyohualli, but only 90% completed in my opinion. There are still a couple buildings without lights. It only started a month ago and when we arrived, there ...

more islands

Next Island, still in touristic overdrive. Best diving/snorkeling in Mexico they say. Planning on doing some snorkeling, diving and moving on, there are too many people here!!! Simon´s pet hate of Mexico - people throwing nappies in the sea, and specifically next to where he is swimming. Bad, bad splashes they are! We hired mopeds and cruised around the islands today, it was really fun ...

... including Queen, Grey and French Angel fish. We saw numerous small jellyfish and some ctenophores (clear critters with what look like tiny LED lights flashing on their sides - if they can be said to have sides). We hoped to see a school of Tarpon, but they were not there. The water is too hot and the dive master's say this is really early in the year to find the temperatures they are experiencing. We met a very nice youngish couple from England. She is a ...

Cruising back to Cozumel

... shopping and then we are back in Costa Rica on Sunday, April 1st. (And that isn't an April Fools joke) A couple photos here and we may not be checking back in until we reach Galveston - I don't think any of you are missing much on this trip though. Hasta Luego! I will attach the photos of the Helicopter on this blog...however, I realized that I only have a couple photos of the helicopter and the rest was all video that I recorded on the camera.

Leaving the beaches

... I stayed in when I was in Thailand. Friday was Mexican Independance day so we went into the town to see the authentic celebrations before returning to the beach where we're staying to join in with a beach party. Needless to say this was an opportunity to join with a couple of Mexicans who showed us even more how to become conneseurs of Tequilas. There's so much to say but I have to go soon, but I was surprised the next morning ...

Honeymoon in Playa del Carmen

... to a place called Parque Nizuc. This place is a sort of Wet 'n' Wild waterpark. It cost about 250 pesos pr person to get it and there were not that many rides inside. We even had to pay extra to get a tiny locker inside and we had to put down like 200 pesos in a deposit to get this. This park is connected to other attractions (such as a place where you can swim with dolphins) but it costs extra to get into these places. But we did have fun in the park for several ours and we did try ...
