We stayed at the Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana which is a huge hotel, as it contains 4 hotels o...

Day 2: My Own Personal "Restoration Day"

... I took it upon myself to take a personal day of Restoration...

Breakfast materials are provided in the morning at the foundation (yogurt, eggs, cereal, milk, amazing coffee, fresh pineapple and papaya, etc). After breakfast, I come to find out that because it is a national holiday ALL of the EF staff and most of the other workers at the resort are on holiday. Low and behold, I am not in a place I don't know my way around without any sort of ...

Day 1: Tourism is scary, Dominicans are awesome

The flight into Punta Cana lands at 5:20pm local time (same as EST) in a thatch-roofed airport where a group of 90% gringos/Europeans are bustled through a series of strange touristy obstacles. First I am very abruptly photographed between two beautiful Dominican women wearing tons of makeup, cerulean blue 'traditional' (?) costume-like dresses and chiquita-banana fruit hats. Mind you, they looked like they hated every minute of ...

Last Night

... eager for me to buy incense or Thai pajamas from their store). They hadn't been able to schedule us at the same time, so Sara went out to the pool while I got my services. It was so relaxing, and after a week of walking around barefoot, my feet were very appreciative of the pampering. The scalp massage was wonderful - it was actually a back, neck, scalp massage and involved hot oil. I nearly fell asleep, I was so relaxed! I got to keep the nail polish, so I'll be ...

Beautiful beaches...and Montezuma's Revenge

... tried to learn how to windsurf. We also went swimming with sea lions, a highlight for me. It was a great trip, although the last day and the few days after were unfortunately ruined by both of us getting pretty sick...Montezuma's Revenge claimed its latest victims!
SKIP IT - Especially in May

... the sun went away and the rain clouds came out. It started raining - and for the rest of the trip it only stopped sporadically.

We hadn't really budgeted for the overpriced excursions as we were fresh out of college and making no money at this point - we really just intended to veg by the pool and now that wasn't an option. SKIP IT - although, Day 1 went ok

... things really started to bother me. The hotel really tries to get you to interact with staff and other guests - which just really isn't my style. I don't like to make small talk and I don't like to be put into these situations...Well, at club med they sit you at large tables with guests and their staff also comes to sit with you as well.

We were the only guests there in our ...

I had to threaten to not get on the plane unless she was there in order to get them to wait the extra 2 minutes - luckily she got there and we were able to continue on our way.

When we arrived we checked into Club Med. It was an all inclusive resort and we had booked our trips separately as we were leaving from different ...
