... Which ended abruptly when we saw a police car pull into the pretty much empty parking lot... We hadn't paid the 12 dollar parking fee so scarpered quickly!! Route 1 is pretty spectacular to drive on, so many beautiful views.. We stopped in Santa Barbara for a little wander. Our stop in San Simeon had all been about visiting Hearst Castle. Our first tour was at 1000 and really glad we had booked ahead as unless you are on a tour you cannot get within a couple of miles (all uphill) to the house on the hill. Would have been so upset so thanks to the Deanses for that top tip.

The sights were just beautiful.
Wild and untouched and quite simply stunning... or as the Americans would say, "awesome".

Whale Cove was the other side of Point de Lobos, and if anything, even more beautiful, It was a sheltered cove where we saw even more seals and otters playing around in the swell.
