Well today we set off to see the Leshan Giant Buddha, the highlight of our visit to Chengdu and the government closed it due to the threat of bad weather. It's up in the mountains and you have to climb about 200 feet of stairs that have been cut in the mountain to get to the other side to see the Buddha. Sadly, we learned only over a thousand of these panda creatures are left in nature and their habitat which in the past extended to most of South East Asia is now confined to the mountains of central China. The sanctuary is a home to 80 pandas and most of them seem to do really well. It was a day well spent and Dasha especially loved watching the sleeping baby pandas.
