... had a chance of still making my flight. I went to get gas for the car as well, because I wanted it to be full before the beach so that I wouldn't have to deal with it later. The station I went to was full-service, except between about midnight and 6am. The girl filled my tank, and I pulled money to pay, but then she topped it off. I tried to stop her, but she thought she was doing something nice for me. Ugh. I didn't want to pay ...

Our Beautiful Carribean Wedding !!

Historical Traveler Reviews Antigua's Yepton Estate Cottages St. John's
Peaceful and well cared for experience
W e spent over two weeks in Yepton Cottages in February this year.
The cottages were extremely comfortable, tastefully decorated and well appointed with an excellent range of cooking equipment, TV and HiFi. The regular and thorough cleaning was carried out diligently and unobtrusively.
The complimentary Wi-Fi Internet connection was very useful for the 2+ weeks that we stayed there.
The site is absolutely peaceful, with fascinating birdlife and attractive lake on the doorstep. Nearby beaches and the town of St Johns provide the extremes of leisure and interest.
The experience is topped by the kind and thoughtful attention offered by the hosts - Gabriella and Doug. They provided detailed information about the island and its history as well as more material things when required.
Fully recommended.
Totally Relaxed
This spot is amazing. The owners, Gabriella and Douglas, were absolutely amazing. The would get cabs for us whenever we called. Oh, and they even give you a cell phone while your there. Talk about thinking of everything. The cottages are better than my apartment - the kitchen allowed me to find a hidden chef deep within myself! Beautiful and spacious, they're appointed with paintings that Gabriella did. We stayed in one of the studio cottages and it was plenty large for us. Eat breakfast and dinner on the porch - go grocery shopping at the public markets; listen to the whistling ducks on the lagoon, bar-b-que with the grill on every cottage's porch. They have thought of just about everything - even high speed internet access.
I found the whole experience to be so relaxing I was almost stressed without stress. I really want to go back for a lot longer than a week.
Pristine and Peaceful
I enjoyed a gloriously peaceful week here in Feb 07. The bungalows are all new and spotlessly clean as well as very well equipped. The birds will fly to your terrace and almost feed out of your hand. It's also easy to get to St Johns though you will need a rental car (easy to find). Wired internet was very reliable when I was there, though not always the case in Antigua.
What a find!
Can't recommend this place enough... an idyllic setting in the best area on the island... Gabriela and Douglas really look after you... the cottages were beautiful and really comfy, and it was so great having a kitchen so we could make our own drinks and meals... the grounds were really peaceful... beautiful!
Excellent self catering holiday
The Cottages
We stayed at Yepton for two weeks in Jan 07 in a 1 bed cottage (no1). The reception, staff and cottages were perfect!
On arrival Gabriela went out of her way to make us feel at home and help us settle in. Throughout our stay Gabriela was fabulous and did so much to help make our holiday very special. We arrived as guests and left as friends.
The cottages are so well thought out and equiped. The bed was one of the most comfortable ever! The kitchen is well equiped making cookin at home a pleasure. There is a fabulous bbq on the porch too.
The setting is lovely with the cottages layed out in a large lawned area overlooking a lake that attracts all manner of bird life - some rather rare.
There are two local beaches a few minutes walk away. The cottages get the trade winds which keeps them lovely and cool. Swinging in the hammock on the porch is bliss!
The Rest
The people in general are lovely. Very friendly and helpful. It was a pleasure to shop, and just strike up conversations in the street or on the beach!
Fresh produce and groceries are mostly imported making them around the same price as London. There is availability, but its not great and the general quality isnt of the best. If you go understanding this you will not be disapointed at all. We shopped both at Epicurien (Jolly Harbour's is best) and at the local supermarket.
There are loads of beaches to choose from but our favourite was Long Bay. Its an absolute must! Its surrounded by coral so there are no waves on the beach making it not only safe but wonderfully restful to just float about! There are fabulous fish around the coral making it fun for snorkeling.
There are numerous restaurants and cafes on the island. In general we found the quality moderate at best and the prices as high or higher than London. Generally we found eating out a disapointing activity. However, we are self confessed 'foodies' and accustomed to excellent restaurants and cafes at home.
One tip - be sure to get good driving directions from Gabriela! There are almost no signs on the island at all and the map only a vague representation! This does make the whole experience quite an adventure but once you get your bearings its all fine!
On the whole we had a good holiday with lovely people, fabulous weather and pretty beaches. What more can you ask for!
Perfect place for a wedding
We travelled to Antigua specifically to elope. Gabriella at Yepton Estate organised this so brilliantly well for us that we had to do little more than turn up! Everything was organised by her - legal paperwork, the cake, the celibrant, the hair, the photography & video work, floral arrangements, witnesses and champagne. She even called us in Australia to discuss what we wanted to ensure that everything went smoothly; which it did.
The cottages themselves are exceedingly comfortable, clean, quiet, and contained everything you can possibly think of to enjoy a stay in the Caribbean. The grounds are well maintained and is an ideal spot to sit around and enjoy the idyllic surrounds of the lagoon, as well as being a quick walk away from the ocean.
Gabriella was also very helpful in organising tours for us, which can be done in advance or upon arrival. Everyone working at Yepton Estate is extremely friendly, and we cannot recommend it highly enough. If it wasn't 32 hours of travel away, we'd be back every weekend.
Antigua, dec.2006
Beautiful location, quiet, relaxing and friendly
If you're looking for a relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings then we can strongly recommend these superbly equipped cottages. The four (soon to be five) units are set on a private lagoon with a wealth of birdlife, and there is also a small swimming pool for cooling off.
Our hosts, Gabriela and Douglas, made us feel completely at home and were a mine of local information. The environment was so pleasant that we cooked for ourselves most nights. There is a "Bargain" supermarket and a good covered market a short cab ride away in St John's (the taxi from the airport goes right past so we stocked up en-route).
There are two great beaches within a few minutes walk both of which have hotels with restaurants. We ate twice at the Coconut Beach Club; the food was excellent and the free bar made it good value.
We rented a car for three days to explore the island and also took an eco boat trip which included the opportunity to snorkel over a coral reef (not to be missed). Gabriela organised everything for us whilst we were there so no need to prebook.
Serene getaway
Our eighth visit to Antigua was very special, we were pleased to find these immaculate & especially well equiped cottages on a lagoon with views & birds galore. We like quiet places that are close to the beach, shops, & resturants. St Johns is 15min by taxi with shops & good grocery, resturants are there & closer, and the beach is a 5min walk. These cottages are unique in cleanliness, decor, and superbly equiped kitchen. A true find on a lovely island.
