... hour. Wow even Shane said he was cold. As soon as we could stop we put on our jackets as we were parked right by the ocean. It was misty and overcast but as we rode only 20 miles south the mist went away and the sun broke thru what a sight we could finally see the ocean. I asked Shane a question, do you smell it? ... hour or so driving in rain and darkness. Our stop for the night was Florence. We had dinner at Kelly's Cantina, an excellent little cafe in the quaint old town.

We wondered if we would see an abrupt end to coffee kiosks once we passed over the border from Washington to Oregon but no, Oregon does have them as well, just not as many. We were in tsunami country all day, with signs noting that we were entering and leaving tsunami zones.

... hundred feet tall and some of the trunks had to be 15 feet or more around. We never did find the trail but it was a stupendous drive, even on a dull dreary day. The canopy of trees was such that it was too dark to get good pictures. I later discovered that we were driving through part of the Siusaw National Forest.
