Autumn to winter in one train journey!

... were able to hop out for a few minutes here and there - otherwise the photos would be rubbish and all blurred! We saw lots of fjords as well - but these were early on in the trip, and the photos were all blurred.

Enjoy the pics, but it really is something you should see in your lifetime - I would so recommend this train journey - but in winter like this, so that you get the snow effect as well - awesome!

Train Expedition

... the waterfall Brekkefossen, but we did not have much time because of the train departure, so we gave up the steep climbing and went to purchase the tickets. But, to our surprise, the noon train was fully booked because of the liner so we had some time for shopping and finding another cache before the next train. Firstly, we were a bit disgruntled but then it turned out to be a better choice ...

Voss... extreme sport capital of the world!

... we all jumped and survived and it was into our rafts. After a brief in boat talk and lesson on how to paddle we were off. And the first rapids hit, unfortunately my lack of knowledge of anything rafting didn't help as the guide put me in the front of the boat as she felt i was one of the stronger rafters in the boat!! Oh dear.

So we made the first rapid okay and we were all feeling pretty pumped and then we approached the second. Didn't quite go according to plan. We hit the ...

Voss, Flåm, Nærøyfjord...what was that last one?

... the hill and, truth be told, ol' Flĺm seemed too touristy for our tastes. So, we headed down the road to Voss. Voss is situated between two well known fjords, the Hardanger and Sogn fjords and, with the snow-capped mountains surrounding the lake, the town resembles those found in southern Switzerland. This town seems to have a little bit of everything depending on your activity of choice. We hiked a bit in the ...

Across valleys and cascades to Voss

... to visit a hotel that served as a nazi "reproduction house" during the World War II, ie, nazis came here with young aryan girls with the objective that they became pregnant and gave birth to aryan babies, "perpetuating the race". Incredible ¬¬ but the most incredible is that nazis came to this magnificent mansion with breathtaking view of the whole valley. Now the mansion serves as a luxury ...

The West Coast: Heck Yes for Bergen!!

... unattractive, and cheese slicers are wonderful, and I use one everyday. However tempting it may be to buy these "typisk norsk" souvenirs for people at home, they do not reflect the Norway that I have come to know and love, not by any means. Therefore, I guess the incredible Freia chocolate will have to suffice. :o) Bergen at night was just beautiful, but daytime Bergen is way more fun. After getting our weekly latte and a scone, we walked around for 20 minutes in search of the ...

Bergen és az UNESCO örökségek!

... a természet húzott újat velem!

What rain?

... was a photo opportunity in snow covered Finse, 1222 metres above sea level. It was an early reminder of why I chose to come to Norway, and I immediately adored Bergen as I walked down the cobbled streets leading from the train station. It was a very quaint city, with a gorgeous backdrop of trees and mountains, and I got an unbeatable view of it when I rode the Floibanen funicular to the top of Mt Floyen late in the afternoon. I was tempted to do some kind of tour but ...

troll fjorden (this bird has flown)

... I thought I might have missed a trail down, so I went again...no cut-off trail. There was a path in the opposite direction that the sign pointed so I followed that and found that to be the trail down. Soon I came to a path with about three splits, none of which were clear trails, and no sign or markings. I ended up just kind of heading down the mountain towards a creek then eventually linked back up with the trail. All these side trails were of ...
