... was a makeshift 1/3 mi trail up to the glaciers edge, where it disappeared and the glacier lay spread out before me. Wearing only tennis shoes, I carefully picked my way up the glacier, taking a long time as I could only walk on areas that had a lot of dirt and rocks. I oculd have easily made it quicker, as large amounts of dirt and rocks accumulated in crevasses, but after seeing how deep some of the open ones were, I certainly was not dumb enough to walk along them!! ...
