Havelock Island

We checked in at Wild Orchid Resort for 11 nights. A lovely hotel with probably the best restaurant on the island - once again, non-smoking. And right on a beautiful, almost deserted beach. We had a decent size room with a double four poster bed. The following day we visited Radhanagar Beach - as mentioned earlier, reputably the best beach in Asia. We won't argue with that! Not a snorkelling beach but exciting waves, elephants in the woods behind the beach and unfortunately our only rain in t...

Havelock-Emerald Haven

"Every time we walk along a beach some ancient urge disturbs us so that we find ourselves shedding shoes and garments or scavenging among seaweed and whitened timbers like the homesick refugees of a long war. " ~Loren Eiseley

Travelling to see mountains and beaches would be I guess, a passion with all travellers, and so is it with me. Mountains calm me, beaches make me think. Anyway, to cut a long story short, my better half has a fascination for beaches and so we planned a trip to the...

Havelock Island, Paradise in Bengal gulf

Admans and goobyes to India

... a few hours and since the inside cabin was just too cramped, we opted to sit out on the back of the boat on some trunk for the engine under the shade. I preferred the fresh air and the occasional chat with the crew to the stale air of inside anyways. Since I just had my drum made for me I wanted to try it out for a week on the Andaman's before shipping it back home. It was way too heavy to carry around with me and after just one day of rain and trying to keep it ...

Indian Wildlife part II - Andaman Islands special

... the Andamans, they all have fleas. We really felt for the blighters as they couldn't even look at you for 5 seconds without having to turn back and bite their tail or scratch their ears or wherever they had just been bitten. Sometimes, if the dog had white fur, you could literally see the fleas crawling about and doing little jumps. As a result, there was no puppy stroking allowed in the Andamans - Sarah was very sad. We think that the ...

Kingfisher - The King of Good Times

... be about anything but having a party, but I do for some reason. I think maybe it's reducible to guilt: if I'm going to take advantage of the fact that some other country is poorer than my own so that I can go there and afford to do **** like have other people do my laundry and get massages, I ought to at least be learning something, right? It just seems gross otherwise. Maybe that makes me an even bigger *******, thinking some country owes me a life lesson in exchange for my ...

... for the planes that supposedly only fits 2 planes. Well, I and many other passengers were livid. Where is the logic here? Why not land the plane and wait on the runway until one of the planes leaves? This airport only has 3 or 4 flights coming in and out per day so it's not like we're going to be in the way. And there are no passenger gates...they just roll a staircase up to the plane and we walk into the airport from the runway. You want ...

Heavenly Havelock

We had just settled in for a leisurely dinner at Megapode Retreat, Port Blair and the local travel agent dropped a bombshell…we are booked for the trip to Havelock Island next morning. The travel agent was quite firm, "Sir, the ferry leaves at 6.30 sharp…my car will fetch you all at six o'clock from the hotel lobby". It was quite a disturbing thought…getting up by 5.00 in the morning. Considering we just landed at Port Blair the same day by a flight, which ...

Two Englishmen on English Island

November 18th - Havelock, Andaman Islands

Despite the government's desire to keep an eye on the whereabouts of foreign visitors, we did manage to sneak a night on a deserted tropical island. It was arranged that myself and Andrew, an English bloke from Hertford, should go out on a fishing boat and camp on an island overnight. We had proposed the idea to our Indian friend (who shall remain anonymous) and he, being lubricated by Indian Navy rum at the time, had agreed that it ...
