... t get too many pictures because the whales moved quickly, but take my word for it, it was the coolest! We were able to see two different pods and about 15 different orcas altogether. We must have watched them for 45 minutes! Then it was time to start our drive back. This time we stopped near a lighthouse and a sea lion reserve. There were so many sea lions and they were huge! They also really smelled. We got back to the wharf around 6 and then took the water taxi to ...

We woke up at our lovely bed and breakfast, The Blue Heron. The air is cool here so we slept with the door open. I saw a deer in the yard. We chatted with the inn keepers over an odd almond crusted French toast and Greek yogurt. We packed our things, hopped in the stang and heeds to Moran State Park. It was a free park day. We hiked the Mt. Constitution trail to the top. It is 6.7miles to the top and back. The beginning of the trail was steep and tuff. It ...

... A short drive from our hotel, we arrived at Meiji-jingu, Tokyo's most famous Shinto shrine. Our guide, Yumi, explained that Shinto is essentially a religion where anything can be a god. One can thank the vegetable gods for food, the flower gods for beauty, and so on. On a day to day basis, religion seldom enters the Japanese thoughts, but it is still important to visit shrines, make prayers and give thanks. This shrine is set in a huge park with over ...

... the only time on our trip we were able to get a van for all 7 of us plus luggage. One of the advantages of being in a more developed country. In my opinion, Amsterdam has some charm and I'm happy to have been there, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to return. However, their airline, KLM is certainly one of the best, and since it connects in Amsterdam when coming from North America,, it is an easy city to visit. On this trip, as on so many others, I, at ...

Mykanos and Rhodes Mon. Sept. 29th & Tues. 30th

There is nothing to say about Mykanos because we were unable to make our scheduled stop there. Apparently the winds were up to 50 k per hour and tendering which was required, was too dangerous, This was a significant disappointment to all of us, and totally unexpected. Considering how poor the wifi aboard was, it was even more annoying for those of us (all) who aren't particular fans of ship games and bingo. Sabrina, however, enjoyed her time at Kid's Club though ...
