... woods. However, 'The Caddy' apparently was having heater troubles that winter. On the way back to her house that night the heater stopped working. It was 2am and we were freezing! I had never experienced a cold like that. Ashley drank too much so I was driving and even with snowboarding gloves I could barely hold the steering wheel it was so cold! I started yelling that we were ...
Iron River, Wisconsin, United States lindsey.martin... 8217;s RV directory) was actually a marina where boats were parked. The whole area was concrete (no grass or trees anywhere). We had full service and a picnic table so it was adequate for a two-night stay. As it turned out, the location was excellent – within walking distance of the downtown area. I was impressed with Leif Erickson Park. It was built above the freeway and had a huge rose garden that contained ...
Duluth, Minnesota, United States jimcabay... br>The girls are holding up well. I think I have the packing thing down better too. Tomorrow we will enter Michigan and cross the upper peninsula trying to reach Mackinaw where we will camp. Here's some photos of today's adventures. The big fish is "Willy" and lives in my hometown, Baudette, MN, which is the town on the Southeast side of Lake of the Woods, and it is the "Walleye Capitol of the World. " LOL.
Whew! The world feels so much cleaner after a hot shower and 2 gin and tonics! What an adventure we've had the past week. Saturday night at Nelson's resort was a very cold one! It was in the 30s and I wondered how I was going to do it in a tent for 5 nights, but alas, the Azetc gods of all things warm kept the heat turned up here. It was probably the warmest first week of September (for Minn) in ages. It was ...
Boundary Waters, Minnesota, United States sinfronteras... with family and more family who wanted to join the fun. I think there were five cars heading up north for the camping trip. My son was looking forward to fishing, I wasn't sure what my daughter was looking forward to. Except that now she remembers the time as a good time and she would not mind taking another camping trip.
... down into the high 30s over the next few days. This will be a true test of my camping stamina--I was never a boy scout so this is all new to me. Good thing we have a guide with us. We'll be way out of any kind of phone or internet signal so check back in on Friday night. If this is a successful trip I should have some nice photos of the wilderness......and a moose!
... about it for a quarter of a second and agrees. It's summer and there might not be anything available, but we pack our toothbrushes, just in case.
On the way, there’s a point where you can take the expressway from Duluth to Two Harbors, or you can take the scenic route. Julie pulls onto the scenic route before I can protest. Aargh. It’s bad enough to have to drive three hours, but then to add another ten minutes to the ride? It seems unbearable. Then ...
... item. We ended the day back at Duluth's canal park at a local Italian restaurant. Dinner was great and we also (in violation of my rule) had a great wine (it was half-off on Monday). It was a Zinfandel named XYZinfandel from the Geyserburg CA, one of our favorite locations in CA. Made us homesick for a little wine tasting. Fed and stuffed, $70 poorer we headed home for some much needed elastic. Hah, and you all thought I was cheap.
Beaver Bay, Minnesota, United States thesairs... Rock chimney where a rich Deluth businessman in the early 1900's tried to weedle his way into a damsel's heart but failed before completing a love nest on top of a high overlook of the lake -- or so the story goes. The lighthouse is defunct as of 1969 but was taken over by an historical society, turning it into a tourist trap. After watching stars, northern lights and ore type lakers over night, we packed up after a big breakfast and headed out on our last leg of the Lake Superior tour...
Split Rock Lighthouse State Park, Minnesota, United States tombuttleWe wound our way along the lakeshore where the cliffs are slowly diminishing from the Candian grandeur size, while passing quaint towns where we scooped up some more fresh and smoked Whitefish for dinner and snacks. Temperance River was the first State Park actually on Lake Superior, mainly because the road winds ...
