... with plants and soil the pinnacles developed. (thank you internet for putting that better into words than I would have….) So with the weather becoming increasing drier & also through fire, the top layer of plants & soil were removed & the pinnacles were exposed through the strong winds, sun & rain eroding the landscape around them. They were a pretty spectacular sight!

... and just walked up, it was hot by then and my scarf had now become a hijab to protect me from the sun. Won't go into too much detail, but my gardening friends would all have appreciated how beautiful the gardens were.  An amazing selection of trees & plants mostly native to various parts of Australia, beautifully landscaped, probably the best botanical gardens I've ever seen. ... most of the time. We make it into Perth and use Navmii (a free, downloadable sat-nav which I highly recommend) to find the hotel. We’re hoping to be equally successful in finding some Irish music tonight for the first time this trip; wish us luck.

(We did manage to find a session, at the Belvidere Bistro in Belmont, only 10 minutes from the hotel across the Swan river causeway, and which was great fun – H sang a couple of songs and played some concertina, ...

... ferry bright and early to pick up the hire car, which we had confirmed yesterday we could pick up earlier. On the way from the ferry to Adelaide Terrace M is divebombed twice by a small, angry bird. It clearly took exception to his New York Yankees baseball cap. Once at the Thrifty office it turns out the message from yesterday didn’t get through and our car is still at the airport.

After some discussion they can give us a 2WD when we have paid for a 4WD but it turns out ...

... people from around the area had come for brunch, and were escorted into the cinema room and shown a DVD presentation about Sandalford Winery where it discussed its history to its wine brewing and the concerts held on the estate, before we were shown around the building itself.

Soon enough we made it back into the dining hall where we had pre-poured wines ready to taste on our tables and as the wine started flowing our lunch was brought out which was a salmon ...
