Off the beaten path and a visit to the Dr.

... beach and is completely deserted (there's nothing on that side to attract tourists so no one goes) but we were determined. We trekked for about 30 minutes through people's backyard farms and dirt donkey trails to cut through the middle of the island, we were the definition of off the beaten path. We were walking amongst a ton of free range horses, bulls, goats and chickens (Tash had multiple freak outs regarding the chickens) ...

... gasping for air. Same day, a half dozen dives later, I was able to stay underwater for maybe thirty seconds. By the second day, I got down to almost eighteen metres - deep enough to wave to a group of scuba divers in the same area, and maybe one minute? If I wasn't seriously low on air then I would have stayed there watching her for hours. It was the best birthday present!

... across to Lombok rather than the ferry. One even went so far as to tell us the ferry didn't take bikes! Judging from the semi submerged specimens of boats littering the shore line and subsequent account of sardine like travel aboard the fast boats, we were quite glad we took the ferry. It cost a mere 65,000 IDRs each and sitting on the top under the shade in the breeze was a nice way to pass four hours in the middle of the day. Getting into Lembar saw ...

Not Gili A - S, but Gili T!

... aspects of the main thoroughfare. A stroll all the way down the main street was illuminating, although slightly repetitive. Dive shops, general stores, massage parlours, restaurants and bars were on a seemingly endless loop. Of note is the lack of cars on the island; travel comes from foot, bicycle or good old fashioned 'orse and cart. Whilst at first fun, constantly having to dive out of the way of the oncoming pony and passengers does get a bit ...
