We left this morning around 8:50 - travelling to Ashville today. It was a lovely drive through the mountains. More colour in the trees than what we saw in the park. 15 degrees today!! Arrived at Lake Powhatan State park near Ashville around noon. Found 2 campsites, set up camp, had lunch and headed out for a hike on Mt. Mitchell. ... rafting, we have used Southeastern Expeditions out of Clayton, Georgia for the Chattooga River. We have used NOC for the Nantahala River. We have used Whitewater Express in Copperhill, TN for the Ocoee River. The picture in this entry is on the Ocoee. We have not tried ziplining, but The Gorge Zipline Canopy Tour in Saluda, NC comes highly recommended.
... because I waited for the rain to stop. Great hike today, no sun - but clear/overcast skies. The wind did pick up for a while, strong enough to almost knock me off my feet at the ridges. Then, after heading down a few feet, the wind was block by the mountain.
