... As expected, there were old worn warehouses which artists had occupied and set up shop.  They left the commercialism behind and focused on the art.  It was wonderful to see them at work! Nellie got to go with us on our adventure to Chimney Rock & Lake Lure.  She bounded up 26 flights of steps only stopping to allow us to catch our breath!  The views were spectacular from the top.  We then took a path to the ...

breakfast, everybody got ready to go. We all hopped in the van and
started off on our adventure. On the drive there, it began to rain.
We decided ...

rafting. We had to take a short trip to where we would push off on
our trip. The group was split into two. One group going with Monica,
the other Jeff. During the majority of the trip the rapids were slow
and uneventful. However, when we came upon the level 2 rapids, things
got exiting. Even as far ...

... because I waited for the rain to stop. Great hike today, no sun - but clear/overcast skies. The wind did pick up for a while, strong enough to almost knock me off my feet at the ridges. Then, after heading down a few feet, the wind was block by the mountain. I took a .6 mile detour to go check out the fire tower, well worth the extra hiking - some cool rock scrambles and great views up there! I almost lost my hiking pole, it fell down the side of a rock edge.....a ...
