Went to our first Waffle House (sounds more native if you don't pronounce any of the syllables), a greasy spoon diner. All the staff were very stressed cooking our food just in front of us. People were still allowed to smoke. Felt like a diner stuck in the 80s. Found out that I'd won some money on the lotto, a small fortune at £25. ... with a disposable BBQ so we grabbed some meat and beers and races up the famous blue ridge parkway- a famous 469 mile scenic route that follows the mountain ridge from north Virginia to South Carolina. ... because I waited for the rain to stop. Great hike today, no sun - but clear/overcast skies. The wind did pick up for a while, strong enough to almost knock me off my feet at the ridges. Then, after heading down a few feet, the wind was block by the mountain. I took a .6 mile detour to go check out the fire tower, well worth the extra hiking - some cool rock scrambles and great views up there!
