... and Dave & Glen (who we bumped into in Glacier NP) were able to drive across the "Road to the Sun" which crosses the park. We were too wide and long so took a tour – in a 1930's restored red bus with guide Steve. It was a great tour until Steve rolled back the canvas roof to let us appreciate the view more. We then went to a lovely restaurant for dinner, I had an elk burger, it was nice, although I'd expected it to taste gamier that it did, I could have believed it was beef if I'd not been told. The size of portions over here is crazy though, the burger was advertised as 26oz! It was a double burger, so I asked for single, and still couldn't finish it. It was very nice though. ... Got to Mommoth and did our business and stopped at the visitor's center to check out the new exhibits. Walking back to our car got another treat; two of the workers from the Raptor Project were on their break and had a scope set up and had a fledgling Great Horned Owl and the mother in the same tree. Got to check them out with the new scope. What a great way to end the day.

It was dubbed the ‘Petticoat Government’ by the New York Evening Herald.” Yep, makes sense to me. :) The town was homesteaded by Maggie and John Simpson in 1894. Maggie and her pal Grace Miller “discussed the idea of establishing a Town of Jackson and then purchased land for a town site.” These two women were the driving force behind the town, which finally incorporated in 1914.
