    ... shells being fired from a Japanese submarine that caused a few small craters in a baseball field but it caused an incredible scare across the US which instantly boosted war support and funding. By the time we ended our tour it was late afternoon and Kaitlyn was historied out but I wanted to check out one more battery so she headed back to the site and I biked over to Battery Russell to do a little exploring.

    After a beach walk, we headed up the coast, gunk holing in the small towns and cities along the way. When we arrived at Newport we toured the Oregon State Aquarium. It isn’t large by any means, but it is very well done. Lots of local animals and fish displays.
