... Merced River, deep in a canyon, for over an hour. The scenery was spectacular. The hills were yellow with rock faces poking out of them and the roads in places were lined with trees…soft wood and hard wood…at times creating a canopy over the road, shielding us from the early morning sun. In places there were huge rocks hanging over the road, balanced precariously on ledges, threatening to fall but still secure in ...

Lynn did get into the Fourth Ward School, although it was closed. It seems that the Governor was there engaging some unknown activity. It's early season and doesn't usually open until May 1st. She got an address of the archivist. The school was built to handle a thousand kids. It gives one an idea of how many families were in town. There was also a Catholic School and a school ...

... to browse through the many shops and made a couple of purchases, and Dave of course heard a slot machine calling his name. We met for lunch over at the Bonanza Saloon and he played the slots a little more. I played about a dollars worth of nickels and then went to finish looking around the town. About 5pm we met back at the room where I downloaded my pictures and did this blogging.

The next day we had to move on so we drove the whole West side of the Lake with it’s really sheer drops and extreme beauty. This is an area where we would readily stay for an extended time, but there’s a whole lot more of America to see! and besides we have friends to meet!
