Crossing over the 1,000 mile mark was not only a symbolic line but a environmental line as well. At mile 996 we left yosemite behind, A few miles later it was noticeable why. Behind was the grand tall and strong high Sierra and ahead was the volcanic dark mountains of northern california. The change of scenery was surprisingly abrupt, but I welcomed it with each stride.
