      Nothing is perfect

A travel blog entry by jchende on Feb 07, 2015

Spent the day with the realtor in Venice. We now know this drive of an hour down and an hour back, by heart. Saw 6 properties, 3 of which would be great EXCEPT... The little gray house in our realtor's neighborhood. Beautifully redone inside, could be bought with the furniture, has a pool, you can walk/bike to the beach BUT the price is close to $300,000 and the neighborhood is very mixed. Some properties are a little run down, while others have had some updating and it ...

Turn the calendar from January 31 to Feb 1 and this place changes dramatically. The island has gone from a sleepy peaceful place with few people, mostly older, to more traffic, more people. Lots of familys, younger people. They tell me "the season" here is Feb and March and this has been very evident this week. Standing in front of the rental agency on Pine Ave I watched several different families arrive to check in. Midwest plates mainly. ...

We're now further up the coast in St. Pete's Beach, FL. Sunny Florida has gone a bit cool on us with cloudy skies. We walked on the beautiful St. Pete's beach every day, sometimes twice a day, and generally relaxed, reading and watching tv. This is a summer vacation town and there's not much else to do here, especially in the off season.

After a couple days, we drove north to the Florida panhandle, staying for the weekend in ...

... of people but not crowded. Sammy will get her first visit tomorrow. I wanted some time to just sit by the water and breathe. We walked down Pine Ave that night looking for a place for dinner. Found the Waterfront Restaurant. Had a nice meal, walked back. It felt strange to walk along a street in the dark looking into stores that were closed, and wonder what to think of this new place. 6 weeks. A long ...

... of the wedding party arriving for photographs. That prompted us to tell Karen of the other wedding we had seen being set up on the other side of the restaurant. She said it is such a beautiful island that they are constantly having weddings on the beach.

After lunch we hopped back into our rental van and headed back to Kissimmee. The traffic was a little heavy, but we got back in about two hours.
