The last sleep....:(

... I love it!

We finally departed this funky shop...I managed to leave without buying a single baby thing! My 'just in case' items! what an achievement!

On this walk we also found some shirts for Rich at only $4, a lovely black and white dress for me, and a very nice hoody for Zam:)

We videoed some frogs we found eating bugs outside a bag shop..so cute. The lady inside the store came out, and she wondered what we were doing!! We must have looked odd, crouching ...

Life is a beach

Well, we are past the half way point of our vacation, and I am sad to see the time go by so quickly. At this hotel every morning is like the movie "Ground Hog Day" as we get up and go to breakfast. As soon as we sit down we are greeted with a glass of fresh juice and asked if we would like coffee or tea as fresh homemade jam and butter is put on the table along with a menu. Two minutes later our ...

I think its Saturday

... It was mostly women who participated, and it was quite a sight to see them all leave the temple with their baskets of offerings balanced on their head. I will include pictures of us in our temple clothes at a later date.
We are busy planning bike rides and a driving adventures out for the next few days. Maybe we will make it to the market today. Salamat tinggal (goodbye) for now

Leaving Lovina- GitGit Waterfall

... here and haven't felt home sick anymore. I am completely at ease in my home, loving every minute. (Julia always writes in her journal, the "best thing of the day," and so I too will start including this little detail, whether it be something funny, cool, amazing, or what not) Best of the Day: The "street angels" get a taxi at 2 in the morning to drive us to the supermarket to fetch more beer, all the while singing Brittney Spears in the car and losing my phone on the way.

Bali: Goodbye Big Dipper, Hello Southern Cross

February 6-8, 2009: Bali, Indonesia Changhi Airport and Singapore to Bali Mary and I headed to the airport on February 6 for our flight to Bali, Indonesia. With this flight, we would be leaving the Northern Hemisphere and entering the Southern Hemisphere for the better part of five months. We had been looking forward to Bali and the islands of Indonesia for a long time. For Mary, Bali had been one of the top destinations on her list prior to departing for this ...

... meal! Paul (the owner) wasn't there, but his right hand man, Parma, took care of us. Day 26: We'd had enough of Kuta, so we decided to take a shuttle bus up to Lovina beach (on the northern tip of Bali). The bus driver took us to his friend's hotel which suited us just fine for $8 / night. We walked into town, ate lunch, and then rented a motor bike for the next few days (for $3 / day). We went to the Mandhara (rasta) bar ...

the end of a life....

... moment...but she decided to give me a sample of her ability to show that she knew what she was doing...not that I doubted that. But she said to me..."I will give you good massage...if not, it's my karma, not yours". Like it would come right back at her if she was a phony. Living a life based on karma is a powerful act. I was talking to Dewa the other day, asking him about whether the rats were a problem in the rice paddies. And he says - of course...and I ...

Real Bali

... being able to see what happens on a day-to-day basis and ofcourse the range of scenery. Our next stop and our favourite of all the temples was Ulun Danu Bratan. A very magical temple which is surrounded by a lake and looks very impressive and I thought the gardens were also amazing. A religious ceremony was also happening while we were there. We had a toilet stop there and we were all very amused with the sign next to the toilets (see photo) and the ...

... lots of hearing children spent much of the morning playing in the yard, as it was Saturday, and a number of them were very keen to see what was happening in this lesson. I was also taken to the headmaster's office, a very official looking room with a photo of the president above the desk and lots of tiny writing on blackboards that were mounted on the walls. There were some young children and a few people walking in and out ...
