... of one way hairpin turns and we were glad to have a GPS for this drive as if we had not we would still be driving around! We finally found a car parking station, not the one we were heading for but another nearby. This turned out well as it was near the spotting stadium and very recognisable on the maps. ... Upon arriving at the work site, I was dumbfounded -- we were surrounded by hills and small villas on all sides, each with immense vineyards going all different directions but with perfect, beautiful symmetry. The work was, again, exhausting, but the view all day certainly helped.

... our gear and headed back into the car to find the large supermarket in Figline Valdarno about 12 kms away. Back down the windy road and breathing in deeply each time we met a car, bike or truck! Traumatic because Cesare is so big, but Slasher is getting pretty good! The Coop supermarket was huge and we enjoyed browsing for our supplies. Amazed by the fridges full of fresh pasta then rows of dried pasta! We decided on fish and salad for tea.

... we had to tend to that but the cliff jumping and cave swimming was a success. When we got back to the hostel we were all so tired, ate at the buffet on the rooftop , showered and I went right to bed. Today we checked out after bfast and drove 45mins to Pompeii, it was 20 euros to do a guided tour of the ruins, but that wasn't in my price range (I had 5 euros left to last me the day) and my friends weren't too interested because we haven't researched it at all so we walked around ...

... the scene and found the highest part of the piazza that would give me the best vantage point of the rest of the piazza and moved in to make some friends. I met an adorable English family that basically adopted me for the day. They had always wanted to see Il Palio and were super excited. They were great people and super fun to chat with and we shared a whole lot of white wine and beer while we waited for the event. Luckily I was supremely dehydrated ...
