    (Bratten) along the river. Clark and a party of 10 men and Sacagawea with her young son Pomp passed by here on July 17, 1806 except they were traveling on the other side of the river. They were still traveling by land in this
    area but when they got to near where Billings MT is they built dugout canoes
    and started their float trip on the Yellowstone River.

    ... I thought this would be a great opportunity to snap a few pictures (I like to photograph old structures). Little did I know we had stopped at the site of the Smith Mine Disaster; the worst mining disaster in the state of Wyoming. This abandoned village was left as a memorial to those who died in the disaster.

    We continued on to Red Lodge which would serve as our entry point for the Beartooth Highway.

    Wile we were visiting with our cousin Judy from Thompson Falls. the weather report came in as cold with rain and possible snow. We decided that a tactical retreat was in our best interest. We got the camp busted and we were on our way by 4:45 The bed at the Big Sky motel felt really good. We had dinner at the Busy Bee cafe and found out we were on the front page of the Roundup Record .     ...1) Remove all of the asphalt on both sides of the road for miles. 2) Put up signs announcing: Bump Ahead! Gravel Road! WAIT for Pilot Car...then repeat!

    We have had an interesting day. We woke up well rested a little later than usual, pulling out of camp at 9:15 into a beautiful Montana morning at 73 degrees with 22%25 humidity. Just doesn't get any better...and it didn't!!
