      A rustic coffee experience...

We really enjoyed staying here! The room was cosy and the shared bathrooms were good. The communal kitchen area is excellent and the constant supply of free coffee much appreciated. The grounds of the hostel are beautiful and provide great views across the surrounding fincas. The highlight of our stay was the coffee tour with the eccentric 'Don Eduardo' (aka Tim Edwards from England!) who owns the hostel and nearby finca. The hostel is only a short walk from the superb 'La Eliana' restaurant.

Andres of the Plantation House was great and very helpful. 7 minute walk to the center. I heard the coffee tour to Finca Don Eduardo is really good, unfortunately I only had one day here and decided to go to Valle de Cocora instead. You can rent rain boots for 5 mil here as well. Try the Kombucha too! The hostel is not the cleanest place, but it has hot water for showers and a cozy fire in the kitchen. Free coffee in the kitchen in the as well!

The colombian guy working there was unpleasant. The english owner is great though, very knowledgable about coffee and has the best tours in town. Wouldnt stay again as for the price, the competition in Salento is better

Salento sits in the heart of 'Zona Cafetera', Colombia's main coffee region. It is a beautiful small town surrounded by gentle rolling hills carpeted in thick forest. The peaceful streets are lined with restaurants serving up delicious local trout and cafes roasting the local beans. Snug bars surrounding the main plaza host old men in non-ironic …

After a 16hr journey I finally arrived in Salento as an almost broken woman. Relentless bus journeys on **** roads. And to top it off because of the heavy rain the bus also got stuck in deep mud and we had to wait to be towed by one of the trucks. Slight panic when I got to Armenia as the last bus had already left and after driving through the …

After a quiet first evening in salento, our alarms went off at 6am for us to head out to Valle Cocora for our trek through the Wax Palms. The trek itself was supposed to take 5 hours in total, but we took around 7. We took it slow as I now had a full blown cold, and took lots of breaks to admire the scenery. The first hour or so was all uphill and …

Sitting in a hammock overlooking the 6 ache coffee farm we viewed today and learnt how it works with the owner Eduardo, feels a million miles away from the harrowing journey we had here. The bus journey was over 11 hours in the end. Got stuck in traffic, the loo began stinking out the whole bus to the point of a choking effect and we had no food or …

Next stop was salento which is a small town just south of Menizales (one of the major coffee plantation regions). We stayed at a rather basic hostel which was pretty much a a wooden shack with a tin roof but it did have rustic charm too. We decided against doing another coffee plantation tour for fear that it would be worse than the last one in …
