The intention of this blog is to maintain connection with Diane. It is a place where we can all communicate through pictures and words, to shorten the distance not only between New York and Ecuador, but between Grove, Oakwood, and Wurtz streets.

We will all miss you Diane (and Julie & Chelsea)

Girls Weekend 2013!

A travel blog entry by laceybronwyn

Girls weekends are good for the soul. To that end, last weekend I ventured to historic Saugerties, New York, with my long-time BFFs and sorority sisters for life Mary and Denise.

Denise's parents have the sweetest luxury cabin on Esopus Creek. In winter, the water freezes over and you can ice skate on it. For summer, they've got jetskis and tubes. They have a heated gazebo, sauna, and hot ...

Last night Arynn, Sain, Claire, Neil, Matt and I went back to Wong for a yummy dinner. Arynn even organised a surprise (early) b’day dessert with a candle. Can’t believe that it’s been almost 18 years since I turned 18! After dinner we headed to Kat’s birthday at The Park. It was a really cool venue ...

Goodbye Hurley, Thanks for all the Memories

A travel blog entry by mcmactravels

We have had a wonderful time in Hurley and it is a little bitter sweet as we pack up to leave. It has been wonderful to be close to family for some more visits--including a great Thanksgiving dinner. We have enjoyed our time with new friends and the time on the farm too. What a treat is has been to live here for a moment, learning some of Kevin's family history and making new memories in this special place. ...

    Pinegrove needs some spiffin' up

    from

This place was a huge disappointment. Activities such as karaoke or square dancing were cancelled without explanation and nothing was substituted. The food was bad, as only mass-produced out-of-a can could be. Overcooked meats, tough, tasteless; soggy vegetables

We booked four rooms, one smelled strongly of chemicals and the sheets actually had sand in them! Were they even changed prior to our arrival?! One room had peeling wallpaper and a bathroom sink full of cracks. The bedding in that room had huge rips and tears. When these problems were brought to the attention of the management, nothing was done.

The place needs a major overhaul. There are indeed lots of activities, but everything is shop-worn.

    A great family Vacation

    from

I can not believe people wrote bad reviews. It is a Dude Ranch not a 5 Star Hotel. This was my 4th year there with my 3 children, ages 9, 13 and 17. Each year has been better than the one before. There is so much to do. David O'Halloran and his Staff were outstanding. Especially Cindy, Sandy, Skeeter, Judy, Arnie and Anthony. The children had a great time enjoying all of the activities.

The food was excellent. So many choices for each meal even for the children. The waiters were outstanding. In my opinion it is a great family value.

We look forward to next summer and year number 5.

Keep up the good work Pinegrove!!! See you next summer.

Wonderful, a great time for everyone!

    from

What a wonderful family vacation. Things to do for everyone, all very enjoyable. There was so much to do we ended up staying an extra night. The kids didn't want to leave and frankly neither did we. I was very impressed with the teenage staff, always polite, they went out of their way to do more than just 'their job.' We look forward to going back again. The food was good, the rooms were clean, no not brand new, not first class, but clean and let's face it you were only in your room to rest up so you could get back to the great activities. I would highly recommend Pinegrove. Something for everyone and then some.

    Deplorable Health Concerns

    from

Room conditions are a health concern: the hallways smell like sewage, dirt piled on the radiatiors, mold in the rooms, ants roaming all over the room, run down carpets, disgusting bathroom conditions, dirty stained mattress, beat up furniture. Need I say more? The pool area is actually ia community bath, unkept area. A child vomited in the pool and no one closed the pool? Nothing a coat of paint cant help. If I didnt know better I would think this resort is headed for chapter 11.

    Get a life/check into things

    from

I have been to this ranch quite a few times. My family & I have not been there in a few years 'cause I went to other venues. I seen the few bad reviews and partially agree with them but you can always come check out this venue any weekend for a tour before booking. This place is run entirely by two families and they are very accommodated to new ideas.

    A huge step down

    from

have been going to Rocking Horse ranch for 8 years and just wanted to try this one. So we went to Rocking horse for 4 days then on to Pinegrove for 3 days during presidents week in February. We were there for one night and tried to go back to Rocking Horse but it was booked. I was even willing to lose my $1800 just to leave. It was unkept, no-one with any knowledge helping on ski hill (which ended right into the woods) and the whole place needed a face lift. Games and activities were unorganized and far and few between. If you can't get into Rocking Horse Ranch don't just book this one as a second resort. Find a different date and go to Rocking Horse Ranch.

Pinegrove is my summer home away from home!

    from

I am shocked to see bad reviews here because I have been going to the Pinegrove since 1988. When I go there it's like visiting family. We are always welcomed by all the staff...old and new. The food is great with enough of a choice to keep everybody satisfied. And the free Chuck Wagon (french fries, burgers, hot dogs, ice cream etc.) is a treat for anyone...young and old. The facilities are great too. I have seen the Ranch transform itself since 1988....adding something new every time we go back. The pool is great and has a water slide feature tht the kids love. And when my daughter was younger she enjoyed the Day Camp.....giving me a little bit of down time for myself. I am a single mother with 2 kids...one who is disabled. The owner, David Tarantino, always took my needs into consideration. There was someone there to watch my daughter as I unpacked my car....always a friendly staff member who upon seeing me struggle at times...jumped right in to help. The rooms are more than adequate and there are plenty of activities for the kids. There is also the nighttime entertainment that the kids love and the disco. It's definitely a family friendly ranch. This is one of the many ranches I have been to in my lifetime but the only one I have returned to year after year. I highly recommend the Pinegrove.

If you love the ranch life

If you love horses and the ranch life you will love this place. If you are looking for clean and quite go someplace else.

    A Big Disappointment

    from

Unfortunately Pinegrove is a huge disappointment. Our family went in August 2003. We stayed in the San Mateo house, a 3-bedroom cottage separate from the main lodge. It was dirty, severely outdated, and full of flies. Only on our 3rd day did we discover that the front door had a large gap at the top that allowed insects to come and go as they pleased. The food was horrible. We didn't expect gourmet, but sometimes it was barely edible. For example, one night they served "Prime Rib" that could have passed for bacon in appearance. There was little fresh; most food tasted like it came from institutional providers. Even the orange juice at breakfast was powdered.Programming was a bit better. The Ranch is geared to kids, and ours had a good time. The day camp was the best part. If you remember that you're there for your kids, it helps adults get through the stay.Ultimately, however, this is not enough. We were supposed to stay for 4 days, but we left after only 3 because we couldn't take it any longer. If you want to try Pinegrove, I suggest a short stay until you're sure you can stomach it.

    Do Not Go!

    from

Horrible is too nice of a word to describe this place it was more of a NIGHTMARE!! It is dirty, run down, and very expensive. The included meals are things like grilled cheese, frozen pizza, and hot dogs, all of which were freezing cold and not good. The petting zoo/baby animal farm consists of 2 goats and an ostrich! Also the staff are either rude, clueless, or a combination of the two. When we relised that there was no shampoo in the room and called the front desk we were told that shampoo is "not a service they provide"! All this for $800 for 2 days/2 people! I am ready to be sick at the amount of money we wasted in such a horrible place!! Save yourself a headache and a bunch of money and DO NOT GO!!!!
