Our last full day in Ireland! :( :(

We decided to head south to the port cities of Waterford and New Ross. Waterford was a Viking city, then a Norman city, before it became an English/Irish city. After the Normans, it gets a little muddled, but it was always a trading center to the rest of the world.

... quarter hour drive to come. We travelled most of the way on an excellent major motorway but hit heavy traffic and roadworks on the outskirts of Dublin city. ... we only had the one wet day and that was in Belfast. As we drove around, our guide played the song "Fourty Shades of Green" – how apt for Ireland.

Our tour traversed the island from Waterford to the west coast, stopping at Killarney, then north to Limerick, Sligo, into Northern Island to Belfast, then back into the Republic to Dublin, for our ferry ride across to Liverpool.

... person, which is a first as well. Most architects will design for one or the other, but had never done both. We got to visit inside just the Catholic cathedral and it was gorgeous. It contains 10 one of a kind Waterford crystal chandeliers that have never been reproduced. The church itself looks like a lot of the cathedrals you’ll find in Germany with the beautiful stained glass, the large pipe organ and the ornate ceilings. Very breathtaking. ...
