... so took a drive through town and along the river Todd. In the map of town the river is shown as a lovely ribbon of blue running through town but in reality it is a dusty, dry river bed! We had worried that the occasional overheating that the Pajero was experiencing was part of a larger problem- perhaps an issue with the engine. With trepidation we took the car to a specialist in the morning, and breathed a sign of relief when we were informed it was just a faulty radiator cap causing our problems. Fourteen dollars later and we driving out of Alice with the problem fixed.

... that although WA only has one time zone, it is in fact wide enough to have at least two. We are now so far east from Perth that the sun actually sets more than an hour earlier, at just after 5pm. ... The sun shining down into the gorge made for great colour differences on the rock faces. It was also nice and cool in the shade at the end of the walk. We stayed there for about 15 minutes and then walked back. The walk took about an hour. By the time we got back we all changed into shorts, although Cameron had changed before we left for the walk.
