Sangkat 4, Khan Mitapheap, Khan Mitapheap Sihanoukville, Cambodia
It was a very early morning wake up call from the hotel in Phnom Penh, the drive 6-7 hours in a local bus to Sihanoukville. This place is a beach resort, I was staying in a lovely beach bungalow about 60yards from the beach. we were there for 2 days and 1 night.
It was lovely until you got down to the beach, where you were mobbed by small children trying to sell you everything under the sun. At one point I was surrounded by 8-10 children all trying to talk to me and sell me things (fo...
Today we felt that we couldn't do the beach anymore as the children (although very cute) were devilishly annoying.
So instead we decided to go off to one of the local 5* resorts down the road. you only have to pay $4 to use their pool and no locals are allow in to sell you things (which is nice).
We chilled out once again for most of the day and drank Banana milkshakes, my favorite drink in Cambodia.
not much else happened, we are leaving early tomorrow for the Vietnam ...
... Cheeky" Charlie, a Khmer, and a Swedish fellow diver.
We did two dives near "Lazy Beach" on the west side of the island (too rough elsewhere) and saw some amazing coral. It was extremely varied in size, colour and shape. The fish were okay (we saw an assortment of tropical fish but no big ticket items) but sparse due to the ship's crew's passion for fishing. The whole time we were diving, they were busy catching all kinds of "pretty" fish (not a word in their ...
Had another long journey yesterday to this place that a can't pronounce- where we are now. The journey was pretty uneventful- no more eating of deepfried insects! Although we did have a Michael Jackson sing along dvd on- so that was quite amusing! Arrived really tired- we are staying in these adorable little huts- except the toilet doesn't flush and you have to spray with the sprayer after using the loo and you cant put ...
Sihanoukville, Cambodia nicowala... patches of red on each other, which doesnt look too bad to be fair. However my forehead is burning like no-ones business and we make our way back. A little more on this in a moment..
We've actually arranged to meet up with some of the guys we met in Siem Reap such a long time ago (feels like ages) for a few beers later and to check out a party on the beach. So we eat and work our way up the beach, ignoring everywhere with expensive drinks (Beer ...
Went to S-21 prison in Phnom Phen yesterday where Pol Pot's regime tortured and slaughtered thousands of people. An estimated 17''000 people were held there between 1975 and 1979. The killing fields, where many of the prisoners were taken to be slaughtered and dumped in mass graves, still have bones and clothes sticking out of the ground which ...
Sihanoukville, Cambodia mikedz... rocker but relatively harmless... apparently the local children call him the 'Ghost' and the few times he tried to order a drink from a bar we were at he was turned down for reasons probably going waay back.
But, now, it's really time to go. We've spent way too long here, drank too much, we need to move on and give our bodies a break (again, sorry mom). So tomorrow it's onto a bus and then 10 hours to Siem Reap, home of the wonderous Angkor Wat.. pride of all Cambodians.
... 2. This town has a huge outdoor/indoor market. It is very spacious and has everything. I was going to order some prawns, but the lady was taking a really long time on another order, so we did not wait. There were beggars at this market, that is a first. We walked to the post office, but it was closed, so we headed back toward our Guest House and stopped at Holy Cow for lunch. The story of the name of the restaurant is that a woman in Bat Tran was ill and she claims ...
Sihanoukville, Cambodia theresabill... meant, ****ing hilarious! "What does feckin' bar steward ***** mean?" HAHAHA) He stood up, ripped the parasol from the sand and had a paddy; swearing and shuting at it, before calming down and going back to his book. When he noticed we were all looking over at him he explained in his fantastic accent - "I sometimes get angry for about 2 minutes but only for two minutes a day, rest of the time I am chilled!". He said it was like a "red mist"! He also got angry about all the beggars ...
Shianoukville, Cambodia comedyad... off our sandals and went inside the main building. A man manning it appeared to greet us. Can't remember his purpose for being there, but he showed us around the artifacts and explained the significance behind a couple of paintings of sitting monks. It turned out they were prominent figures who had died during the Khmer Rouge years - certainly one of them had. We exchanged a few more words, retrieved the scooters and sped off again towards town, although we ...
