... as well as the trekker. This involves engaging a pahit, who looks after the elephants and rides behind the elephant's ears. You'll either be in a howdah, a little platform on the elephant's back, or, if you're traveling economy, on the elephant's back.
Even though riding an elephant is a must do, you'll have a more intimate experience of nature if you hike. You'll want to hire a guide, at least for you're first ...

Kathmandu, Nepal blummo... depressed, as I realized that this experience will be so amazing and rewarding. All of the children are adorable and well behaved, and it makes you wonder who would abandon them.

So that was Bhaktapur! I had an early breakfast and left the hotel after getting very clear directions to the bus station. I had no problem locating the bus for Kathmandu and travelling back to the hot, dusty, noisy city. I could have chosen a better time though as the bus was crowded with people heading off to work and the traffic into the city was horrendous. It only took me about 20 minutes to walk from ...

On Thursday afternoon we went for a walk to Durbar Square, where there are a couple of nice temples that we could look at but not go inside. Then we carried on walking to Monkey Temple, which is a huge temple at the top of an massive climb of steps and surrounded by monkeys. We had to climb about 300 steps to get to the top and then we got an excellent view over Kathmandu. There were some little stalls up at the top of the steps too ...
... of the Annapurna range of Himalayas. The weather was atrocious on arrival, just our luck, and we again played into the hands of the touts nicely. This time we were escorted through curtains of rain to 'Elegant Guesthouse' which looked like a B&B lifted straight out of some Welsh valley. Nevertheless it was on a standard of luxury so far unencountered in Asia with attached bathrooms, room service and newly painted walls. It was cheap as well.
Before we ...
