... like driving that far. Regardless, we made the decision to go earlier this week and drove the 100 or so kilometres to another delightful town. We arrived in time to wander the streets, visit the cathedral and then have some lunch. The cathedral dominates the square and rises up and dwarfs other buildings which surround it. It is another example of extraordinary architecture and skill of the craftsmen from that time. The cathedral was started in 1263 and has a ...

... doing their laps. Time passed and the crowd continued to fill up the stands. The speeches began, and went on for some time and then action! The bulls appeared! One large. One small. Hmm. After picking up our rental car, we charged North towards Tuscany. Thankfully, the rental company didn't have any Fiats left! We rolled along in an equally small car that had slightly more power (we could climb hills in 2nd gear instead of just 1st)! The region was incredible! Our first stop in Orvieto is one such example. The buildings are perched on the top of a ...

... you literally stand on a balcony underneath the falls, and get very very wet!!!

Other day trip highlights included the magnificent fašade of Orvieto’s cathedral, and climbing the Torre del Morro for views of the town and surrounding valleys. We enjoyed the beautiful piazzas and hilltop vistas as we got lost in the cobble stoned old town streets of so many different villages of Umbria. Climbing another church tower in Todi, wine and olive oil tasting ...

    Impressions of Assisi

A travel blog entry by travellingshoes on Aug 13, 2014

    1. For some reason Richard had wanted to pop in here - we had debated whether we would - totally glad we did. 2. Being quite amazed as we drove in at the size of the church do Assisi and the town perched on the top of a hill (now there is a surprise!). 3. The contrast between the simplicity of Assisi (giving everything up for the poor) and the scale of the church built in his "honour" 4. Our crazy GPS leading us along some tiny narrow lanes just to get out of Assisi to the main road ...
