Unterwegs Richtung Fredericton

Enjoying the Capital of NB

... route took longer. The fall colors are at their peak and we were constantly wowed by the colourful vistas that spread out before us. What a wonderful province to be spending my favourite season in. Enroute, we stopped at a farmer’s road side stall and bought fresh picked apples. He had several oversized pumpkins on display (photo attached). He told us that one weighed in at over 700 lbs!!!
Arriving in Fredericton, we quickly ...

Second Movement

... dogs are ok however they are not allowed near the mountains since it's so difficult of a hike. Heading out in a few minutes to walk the big city. I think it's 1 block wide by 5 blocks. The city center doesn't even have a stop light. I am 80% sure we are in a 2 light town. We will be heading out tomorrow morning heading south. No real plans yet... need to search the tubes for our next stop. Jeff

We made it...

... got locked out of the hotel. It was fun 44 degrees and rather scary since this town is empty. There are only 3 cars in the parking lot and even the staff goes home at night. So if you don't hear from us in the next few day assume the worst. Funny - I could not find the entrance so I made my own to the parking lot. Well I did not realize the ground was wet - so you can see the tracks all the way from the street to my car. Ooops...

DAY 4: Summitted a Mountain

... and we ate cheese and sausage to celebrate. It was great! We took lots of pictues. Tradition has it that you are supposed to bring a rock from the bottom of the mountain to place on the top. I was lazy and didn't want to carry anything heavy in my pack and left behind a seashell I found yesterday. We didn't stay on the top long, mostly because I was afraid of being trapped on that horrible mountain in the dark ...

Indian Land

... Penobscot Indian Nation. Officially we are no longer in the USA. We are guests of the Penobscot Nation in their sacred hunting and fishing grounds. This is wild bass country, home to some of the largest bass that can be found in Maine. Only Sysladobsis Lake, a three hour paddle to our north, has larger bass. Sysladobsis can only be fished with special permission from the tribe, and you pretty much have to ...

Mt. Katahdin (I Took A Walk to Zipperhead)

... make harder than an accent. For one, your entire body weight has to be stopped with each step. It turned our legs into mush very quickly. The half mile of ridgeline hell went by very quickly, though. What had taken us hours to cross one way, took us 40 minutes going down. This was because so much of it was low impact. Climbing down over these huge boulders was slow and mostly on our butts. Around the treeline I had another minor freakout. I got dizzy and couldn't move. I ...

At Wick's End

... the crash memorial for SwissAir nearby. The coastal drive is really nice but repetitive and instead of driving to Yarmouth (seriuosly) I drove north to New Brunswick because the ferry was goig to be over 100.00$ I stopped in Wentworth, NS a quite little town with scattered houses, hostel and caves, hikes , climbing etc. But then I carried on the main Trans Canada, not much to see because of all the trees but quick. I don't ...

Close call with rain and a rising river

... up and it could be a flash flood area. So I loaded up and started up the incline, but the dirt was clay and the rain had made it slippery so I slid back down. I backed up as far as I could and tried to build up some momentum which was difficult because at the base of the incline was a half foot depression in the ground that slowed me down. And as I tried a couple more times I started slippping back sideways twisting towards ...
