Opp. Hotel Oak Field Munnar, Kerala, India, 685612, 91-4865-233088
We had a great drive up into the mountains. The drive up was curvy and we stopped a few times to look at rubber trees, spice plants, and waterfalls.
The Dew Drops Home stay is quiet and the temp has cooled down into the 80s. There are occasional rains, but nothing sustained. The result is a misty mountain experience. The guest house is located at above 5000 ft elevation. Barb and I ...
... we visit the dam that has created the large lake in the area and then do some speed boating on the lake. We were a little leery about the speed boating but decided to accept his suggestions and we were all glad we did. As we walked across the dam we saw the lake on our left and the narrow valley on our right with the dam spillway providing water for the valley's river. And 15 minutes of speed boating for $6 is pretty good. The area around the ...
Munnar, Kerala, India punctiliouspaul... and tripped to Elagiri in the month of October with a good trek as well. Yes it sounds in my heart that it was a huge gap from the last trip and I became a day dreamer to be a frequent traveler to discover many known/unknown places.
Keep myself cool and not better than late, here is the next quick start to Valparai (near Coimbatore) on 19th November. We always target for Western Ghats, I keep this in mind that my youth is not enough if I have to discover complete Western ...
The trip to Munar was scary, in fact scary is the wrong word petrifying. Munar is in the hills and to get to it from Cochin a few tight turns are necessary. We had the misfortune of sitting right behind our suicidal bus driver as he did breakneck speeds in a 50 year old bus round tight bends while overtaking people. More than once I planned what I would hold onto if the bus were to role and how the hell I would get out of the bus quickly if I thought we ...
Munar, Kerala, India benandmela... i had a chance to crack out the layers, alapaca jumper and retro style, BMX bandit, brown leather fingerless gloves and we found the refreshing, pure air was a welcome relief after the hot lowlands. Nice opportunity to rid myself of the respiratory infection i got from being in the polluted cities and maybe from smoking too much. Every morning in your paper thin walled hotel rooms or just on the street across India you can hear all the Indians doing the big whooping cough ...
Munnar, Kerala, India inoursuitcase... pretty waterfall, looked like a good idea as it would require at least a few days to fully enjoy this beautiful area. http://www.marayoor.com has a list of hotels in the area. The Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary begins here, subtly changing from dry to drier deciduous, with patches of scrub and thorn forest in the lower elevations. The road goes through to Udumalpettai in Tamil Nadu, barely 40km away. Our driver Munis told us that he once did a walking pilgrimage to Palani, along this ...
Periyar/Thekkady, Munnar, Idukky,Chinnar, Marayur,Thattekad, India indianature... tin can ever, with no glass at the windows most people pull the black canvas down to give them some protection but we thought we would hack it! The journey, although we had numb bum's from sitting on metal seats and were being thrown all over on the bumpy mountain passes through national parks, was amazing! We usually had our eyes closed on the bends as the driver took them at great speed and it didn't look like we'd get ...
Munnar, India limi07... tea plantations and hill stations. The height meant the weather was much cooler and a welcome relief from the 37 C in Cochin. I even had to use my fleece in the evenings it was that chilly! The scenery in Munnar was amazing - we did a 10 km trek amongst the tea plantations and took a swim in a waterfall at the end of the trek! We also did a 6 hour rickshaw ride with our guide Munesh to the Top ...
Munnar, Kerela, India jimandmargarida... hills, through lush eucalyptus and pine forests and tea and coffee plantations. Back in the colonial days, due to the unbearable heat, the British sent expeditions up the Ghats to find hill stations they could retreat to. They found Ooty, established it as their summer retreat and built cottages, members club, tennis courts and a lake. By the sounds of it they also had a jolly good time and billiards, apprently was founded here. The town centre isn't quite as picturesque ...
Ooty, India lauralouise... Gut, dies ...
