... sitting here blogging without TV and listening to the wretched country station Melissa is subjecting me to, I could still indulge in Crater Lake Pinot Noir. Tomorrow we head out to Cave Junction and the Treesort to stay in the highest treehouse called Majestree. Today's lesson of the day was that Oregon is not pronounced as "Or-i-gone" but "Or-e-gin." I had to explain that Melissa had a funny accent and didn't mean to call it that:) ...

Temperature today a little cooler so lots of layers required. Off we went to Crater Lake around an hours drive from our cabin. The countryside has altered quite a bit, no longer trees and trees but open spaces, wide plains and cattle ranches, with the stunning Cascade mountains in the distance. We arrived at the perimeter of the park and at the first viewing point are greeted with the view of Annie's falls, an immense canyon full of pines and cascading waterfalls. We drive onto ...

Tuesday, August 11, 2015. PCT day 114. Miles 1792-1824. (31 miles) Wow! What a day. I was up by 5 and out by 6:30. I took about an hour to warm up. I put on my headphones on and played some music from A Tribe Called Red. Nothing gets me tranced and moving fast like their music. Since I only had 1 day of food left, my pack was definitely lighter, enabling me to even run in spurts. The trail runner in me couldn't resist. ...

We awoke this morning and it was absolutely freezing. We tried to get the stove running, but without success. Now Crater Lake NP offers two kind of boat trips. First is a tour around the caldera with a stop of three hours on Wizard Island. Second is the same but without the tour. There are 38 spaces on each trip. Both trips leave twice a day. Only half can be reserved. The others go on sale 24 hours in advance. I reserved the large trip but something went wrong and I ended ...

... America and has no other source of water other than the rain and snow which created it. It's been nice to be in the park after Labor Day, it feels as if we have the whole place to ourselves. The campground here is great. They still have ranger talks every night which is a great way of ending a busy day. The day was warm with the sun but cools off very nicely to have ...
