Tallinn to Tartu to Viljandi

... wanted some hints about what to see & do there. I'd been feeling a bit flat this morning, and it was a nice change to speak to other travellers, even briefly. After breakfast we checked out. It wasn't raining so we decided we would walk the kilometre or so to where we were picking up the hire car, and wheel our luggage with us. This was easier than navigating the 1-way streets back to our hotel. We hired our car from Easy Car Rentals (as it says in large letters on our back ...

Estonia

... one of them and she gave me the warmest smile as I passed. Trying to look as cool as possible I returned to her a cheeky wink and grin but as I did so I stumbled on the cobbles, just about managing to keep my feet. I must have been puce as I hurried away from the growing laughter coming from behind. There's something about cobbled streets; I find it impossible to look cool while treading the bumpy terrain. The first bar I hit was one called 'Hell Hunt' and it describes itself as ...

Surprise! We got "Mary-ed"!

... today. Mary Moment #24: Mary told me that the highlight of Parnu so far has been "being in the room with you." Wow - thanks! Quite a compliment for a guy! After relaxing on the beach for a bit, we went off to the Museum of New Art. On the way, we passed by a spa offering mud baths. You can pay extra for a medical exam. Hmmm ... it doesn't sound too safe ... perhaps the mud is radioactive from Soviet nuclear ...

It is the end of the on Tues here in Sulbi

Hello everyone...it is day 3 of camp and we decided to fill you in on some of the silliness that has arisen mostly from lack of sleep. As we began to explore Estonia, we noticed a recurring word: pood. Yes, you read right...pood. It just sounds funny. We soon found out that what it really means is "small store," but we insisted on using it in every possible sentence. It got out of hand and has now become the camp joke, especially late at night ...

Monday, Monday!

Today was the first full camp day. It was filled with activities! The kids took part in several craft projects like making hackysacks (foot bags), designing animal cutouts and painting backdrops to be used in a drama later this week. During music lessons the children learned some new songs and were introduced to the theme song written specifically for this camp. It's inspiring to watch their progression not only through the activities, but through the ...

It's a beautiful Sunday in the neighborhood.

Greetings from Sulbi! We began the morning with a lovely breakfast consisting of porridge with butter, cream, and strawberry jam. This unique hot dish was accompanied by more traditional Estonian breakfast food: bologna, cheese, and bread. Our VIM team was then divided into three groups: one traveled a paved road to Calvary UMC's sister church, Ruusmae; one traveled a dirt road to Kaupo's church, Voru; the final group remained at camp and successfully managed ...

Campers and Volunteers Mesh on Day 1

Hooray! The Lighthouse campers have joined us on what has turned out to be a very active first day. It did not take long for the meshing process to commence as we gathered for games that allowed us to get to know each other better and show off our athletic prowess at the same time. The campers missed some folks from last year .... We had some Elvis time..noting that ...
