    ... dive we were able to stay down over 50 minutes. Rob also brought us back to the shore underwater so we didn't have to swim on the surface to get back to the beach. After removing our fins in the water we got out, rinsed our feet of at the shower pole and walked over to the pool where Rob has us get in to rinse off the rest of our stuff off.

    ... Lahaina which is known for its characterful main street, full of boutique shops and eateries. En route we passed some gorgeous beaches and drove under the dramatic West Maui Ranges.

    Conveniently it was lunchtime when we arrived at sunny Lahaina so we bought a few bits for a picnic and sat on a beachside wall before we would start what became our 4 hour amble around the town! ...

    We continued on to Paia, a small town further down the Hana Highway. The guidebooks described Paia as a "quirky" and "bohemian" town, filled with surfers and throwbacks from the 1960's. It is a charming little two-street town that is similar to a more laid back Santa Cruz or Berkeley. There are two natural food stores, art galleries, bathing suit shops and several restaurants.     The snorkelling encouraged the girls to learn some more about the local aquatic life so the next day we headed to Maui Ocean Centre - highly recommended by lots of people and it didn't disappoint. For anyone visiting in the future, spend the extra $10 pp to do a Behind The Scenes Tour (pre-plan as its only offered on certain weekdays) and give yourself half a day. With ...

    ... in the opposite direction, turn around again, backtrack. Aha! The book says go behind this resort and there it is. Finally! We've spent about 45 minutes or so driving back and forth the same 7-8 miles. So much for an early start.
