... the lake side was disgusting. Not a clean patch on the shore. The new cone Gunung Baruiari was obscured in cloud that merged the top of the lake with the bottom of the sky. The hot springs were a further thirty minute descent and we were first there. We dived into the bath water amongst cliffs stained sulphur yellow, relaxed, and tried to wash two days dirt from our bodies. We were surprised to see the two Estonian boys and the Polish couple arrive who'd made the summit in the ...

Smitas holiday

... It was more an apartment than a room and I made use of the complimentary water, Chinese tea, toiletries and bath tub! I received a wake up call at 5am, had a buffet breakfast at 6am then was back at the airport by 7am. In my 12 hr flight i managed to watch 4 films, read one book and have several conversations with the person next to me. At 4pm London time I touched down, ready to have 3 weeks back in the UK before setting out on the next leg of my trip - Australia.

The road passed by the water a few times and ...

... it was after dark. As we waited we huddled around a small fire and watched as the stars started to appear in the sky. Never in my life have I seen the sky as lit up and amazing as it was. Absolutely amazing. The porters set up our tents quickly, and everyone hit their tent and sleeping bag as soon as it was all set up. It was cold at the top of the mountain, about 5 degrees. They brought us dinner to our tent of rice, chicken and veggies, and I passed out from an incredibly exhausting ...

Bludging in the Gili Islands

... our shoes and gear and it was HOT. Fortunately, the sight before us was utterly spectacular. A truly beautiful island complete with light green water, soft sand, palm trees and a scattering of island huts. There are no cars or motorbikes allowed on Gili so the only mode of transport is horse and cart. We put our packs into the cart and headed to our guest house (clip clop clip clop). We were to learn later, that there was no post office, one ATM and one money ...
