... an expert so I drove on with confidence and soon afterwards arrived at my destination. There really were four small castles built high up on a ridge and the only way to get there was to walk (in the heat of the day), but we did it and celebrated by returning to a riverside cafe for a lovely cooling drink and a nice lunch before returning, without incident, home.

My foot is still sore but I have finally been able to get it into my walking boots and ...

... has Charlemagne living here briefly, in 800AD, to establish the monastery, and reputedly marking out the hills with his buttocks. The walk around the village is the Pied de Charlemagne, literally, his footsteps.

Finally, locals take kindly to our attempts at French, humouring us and filling in the gaps where even a Franglais word won't suffice.

Today we woke early an got up for breakfast which was pretty average a lot of breads, meats and cheese, then got in the bus and drove close to 4 hours to a lovely chateau in the medoc area! ... as we got back on the train. Another couple of hours we should be back in Toulouse and then on to Carcassonne. I loved the grotto in Lourdes.
